at 06:36 the flue is less than 300mm from a window. But that window looks like it is boarded up & so is not an opening window. Does the 300mm have to be applied if the widow is non opening - either boarded up or simply a non opening design?

Learnt a lot in such a short space. I will say, you do come across as a know it all. I know there are some rough engineers out there but sending content out slating lad's, when the majority (In my opinion) care about there jobs, end result and their customers, is a bit counter productive. Should be helping each other, not slaying each other. There ain't many out there atm and less good ones, so hopefully your next video is less cocky and more helpful. All being said great content 👍

I'm Not a gas boiler engineer but I'm a Aerospace Defence Hardware verification qualification test engineer, it's always good to know what's right ✅ in the Gas trade & what's wrong an good indication when looking say for a new home 🏡 The only thing I've changed is a water flow switch for a combination boiler of my own, & thermocouple for an old Central Heating & Hot Water boiler 30 years ago, in the end on that boiler it was found that water was coming from the old dicast heat exchanger onto the pilot light, then a Gas engineer was called out to give the old cast iron boiler a good service 👍, They don't make them like that anymore 😅, before that was installed 40 years ago we had the very old cast iron radiators, those were I'm sure recycled by the installer, those would be well sort after including the very wide cast piping that was taken out, Interesting to look at all the systems, I still really like the Viessmann 200W 13 years old still going very well 👍 I see installation errors using 15mm gas pipe but its not far from the Gas meter, & I was informed by Viessmann I would be better to have 22 to 28mm on flow return except near the radiators, they used 22mm to a block then microbore 10mm plastic to radiators, I'm picking up all the best information for the next installation in a new home 🏡 later on

If a boiler is already installed in compliance with then current manufacturers instructions (2020), then later the manufacturers instructions change (2023), does the installation become wrong? Is this reportable? The Worcester Bosch 2000 installation instructions changed do we need to report this as at risk for not being as per MI's?
@tomkatgastraining11 ай бұрын
It’s installed to the current regs and MIs so if it’s installed and they change then the appliance would become not to current standards so no need to do anything

Thanks for tge informative video Derek. I have a ideal he18 bolier. On very windy/wet days I get water being driven in through the flue. Is there a guard /cover or anything that can be used to prevent this?
@tomkatgastraining3 жыл бұрын
The problem is the installation of the flue it is probably on to steep a fall. There is no guard for this the flue will need installed correctly or do you have a gutter or pipe above the flue leaking or blocked as this can also let rain in
@dannybrown4383 жыл бұрын
@@tomkatgastraining there's no guttering above flue, its fitted Between the wall and fence where the wind really picks up. It looks fairly straight coming out with no whites showing. Should it angle slightly downward, as it's angled slightly upwards
@tomkatgastraining3 жыл бұрын
@@dannybrown438 the angle should be straight on the standard length of flue or to manufacturers instructions. Flues are designed not to let water in even in a storm so without looking at it I am guessing

The 10ppm reading that changes things from AR to ID sounds strange, wouldn't it change from day to day depending on weather conditions? Also is that test done with the door closed or open? Thanks
@tomkatgastraining3 жыл бұрын
All test results are on the day of the test and yes it can pass one day or fail the next that’s why we say at risk meaning it’s at risk of becoming ID as far as the door open and closed if you mean the flue is too close to a door then yes the door is open

@tomkatgastraining Жыл бұрын
A mouse can get through a hole bigger than 10mm but if it went into the flue it’s self it would be inside the boiler or the heat exchanger
@HDsharp Жыл бұрын
@@tomkatgastraining I see, so has long as the boiler is sealed (no gaps whatsoever) for the mouse to enter in the flue, then through the boiler and then into the house, it should be safe to rule out that possibility of mice entering the home that way.
