Just be careful with a _metal_ hook with those flimsy drain hoses. No tolerance for a possible snag in the future to kink or worse, pierce it.

What if the drain hose is not long enough for the optimum high loop? I don't want an air gap (ugly and it removes my sprayer or soap dispenser). Can I just get a hose extension to get a high loop?

If you have an air gap, but atill have excess dw drain hose that loops and sits on the bottom of the cabinet could that be causing odors we experience?

Great Question - I think anytime there is a place for water (especially dirty water) to sit undisturbed on the "house" side of any type of trap it has the potential to lead to odors escaping

Water always finds its level. It's so basic, many people overlook it. And, never assume a loop on the side of the dishwasher is adequate!

Can't you just cut a hole near the top of your unit and run the hose over?

Thanks for the question! This could be done if you have enough clearance behind your dishwasher to run the hose up behind it - if it is a snug fit the hose being behind it might cause your dishwasher to stick out too far in front

@@weekendworkbench1 but the hose goes in to the back of it no matter where you run it. It goes in to the recess at the bottom

The dishwashers that I am familiar with have a void at the bottom back of the dishwasher so it easily has room to sit and run into a side cabinet - if it is run up the back of the dishwasher then it will be against the back of the dishwasher tub and could push it out a bit - just the ones I am familiar with anyway - others may differ- thanks!
