If only it worked like this video shows. My Kenmore dishwasher has a hose connection at the bottom front as shown in the video, but the hose goes up and down the left side of the washer, and is clamped tight in a top loop. That drain hose goes back down to another one connected in series at the bottom rear of the dishwasher. You have to remove the dishwasher from the cabinet to get to it. I suppose that design prevents the backflow valve issue these guys talked about -- it provides a built-in top loop so you don't need to create one under your sink. Still, drain hose replacement is a whole lot more complicated than these guys presented.

His dishwasher looks like my old Kenmore that was here when I moved in back in 2010. His funk might be coming from black mold/gunk forming under the bottom inside seal of the dishwasher, you have to clean that out every once in a while, it gets really gross at that bottom door hinge.

What about an anti-siphon air gap on the drain line. Here in California and in most states that is also required to prevent contaminated drain water from the sink backing up into the dishwasher. You should also go ahead and look in the sump to see if there is anything obstructing the flow. I help a friend with her dishwasher and discovered that the sump was full of ground up paper napkins and hair and other general yucky stuff; the washer was 10 years old and never cleaned.
@bruceclark71986 жыл бұрын

It looks like states (or localities, where it's not regulated at the state level) are around 50/50 in whether an air gap is required, or a high loop is sufficient. Air gap requirements seem more common out west, while much of the eastern U.S. is high loop. But it's not a straightforward split, and some states (e.g., Minnesota) have changed over time.
@EverettWilson11 ай бұрын
We have an air gap via the counter right behind the (undermount) sink, and when the disposal side of the hose gets clogged with particles, the dishwasher pumps its waste water all over the counter. I understand why it exists, but it's absolutely infuriating to flood the counter and the floor due to a clog.

OK my mind is boggled. We just moved into an older house. We cannot figure out where the smell is coming from! It's not the p-trap. It's not the dishwasher hose. Could it be the actual disposal?!? But I ran a vinegar baking soda solution in it. The smell remains! One thing that's weird is the smell is strong from under the sink. When I open the cabinets I can faintly smell it. What else could it be?!?!? Solution please!

My personal advice is that a common household kitchen does not need a dishwasher. It should be equiped with two sinks: one for washing and one for rinsing.
@Newcumpas16 жыл бұрын
Dishwashers sanitize dishes much better and more efficiently then hand washing.
@umpokitomaurice67806 жыл бұрын
I really don't want an argument on this issue. My point is that if dishes are cleaned immediately after a meal, does it need to be sanitized? Unless ones starts a washing machine for two or three plates, seven or eight utensils, etc... the sanitizing becomes a must when, let's say that dishes remained in the machine for several days, untill the machine is full enough! Leaving dirty dishes in the machine for several days devellop germs and that is not wise! My point is done, end of discussion!
