All that time spent installing stairs for a living paid off. Working out all the top and bottom cuts the hardest part. You make it look easy.

Irony is Dave, I used to be really intimidated by stair fitting, but like you say, facing your fears and getting on with it over the years has made it come really easy now👍Thanks for watching bud 😎 Cheers Del

Great video, thx for sharing, we are making a solid oak staircase with the winder at the bottom and straight at the top, it's nice to have a video as a reminder on a job I've done many years ago. I know how to make them, but I lose a little confidence after not doing one for many years, so this has refreshed what I already know, nice to see a quality craftsmen at work.

It's great to see you back Del been missing you of late, good point you made at 16min on the video about the riser and tread being square, often had problems with newels not been plumb even if the shoulders of the tenon were tight. Look forward to part 2.👍👍

Great video as always! Just wondered why you use pva on the stair joints and not PU glue? I’ve always found the foaming action as it dries guarantees no squeaks!
@thetallcarpenter
@thetallcarpenter Жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel🖐PVA glue is INSANELY strong when used on tight joints, and is much more user friendly when used on stairs👍I'm not saying its superior to PU glue, as PU glue is VERY strong and good at bonding non tight joints💪it's just a bit messy for use on stairs😎Thanks for watching and your comment 🤩Cheers Del

Hi do you always start fitting stairs from the top? My builder says he does it from bottom.
@thetallcarpenter
@thetallcarpenter Жыл бұрын
ALWAYS start fitting from the top Peter👍as the top tread/nosing is an absolute fixed point with no scope for adjustment, unlike the bottom tread/riser which you wouldn't notice being 10mm higher or 10mm lower👊Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del

Del, doesn't it bother you at all, being a right-hander, using a circular saw with the blade on the right and the motor on the left?
@thetallcarpenter
@thetallcarpenter Жыл бұрын
Hi there🖐Absolutely not😲I find blade right saws far easier to use than blade left ones🤔It's mainly due to the better sighting of the blade as you lean over the saw, and as you lean over the saw, you bring it closer in towards your body where you can utilise your core strength better, which gives better power and control👊 I find myself leaning away from my blade left saw to sight the blade, plus it shoots the dust straight into my pockets😆Thanks for your comment😎
@julietphillips1991
@julietphillips1991 Жыл бұрын
@@thetallcarpenter Two things: you're a pro, I'm just a diyer and you're tall, I'm not. My issue is sighting the blade because for me it's over there and I find myself craning and leaning over too much. It took me a while to realize that some saws have the blade on the right and others on the left.
@thetallcarpenter
@thetallcarpenter Жыл бұрын
@julietphillips1991 Good points, and I think blade orientation can suite certain jobs and the hand of the operator also has a bearing👍
