Such a great video. So in depth and really clear with the instructions. Best part is how well u did the electrical portion. Ive never done a single thing involving electrical work, but i feel very confident that I'll be able to do this part myself along with the rest of the install and probably save $300-400. Can't beat that with a stick!!! Thank u sir

The way you explained everything sounded like I'm in a training class, also the idea of breaking the whole concept into parts to add more focus was a good idea. I installed the 4 head unit in my house I have a crawlspace so I cut the Sheetrock out to install the line sets it was alittle more work but still rather simple and because I have a crawlspace I left the coiled up lines underneath the house and just uncoiled what I needed to exit the foundation, all and all alittle time consuming but pretty simple it’s been about 3 and a half years and still working great, it takes a little time to clean the units one a year 😮

I followed these instructions. Mine appears to be a lemon. It powers on but the compressor never comes on and I get a PC 03 error. From what I can tell this means low refrigerant. I didn't get any bubbling when I sprayed the soapy solution. The other part of this that is not mentioned and I feed is disingenuous is the cost of MrCool products. The unit comes with refrigerant line to use that is 25 ft, but if you need longer get ready to shell out some money. A 35ft "precharged" refrigerant line is about $430. If you want to extend off of what you have, ie. 25ft + 16ft, the 16ft refrigerant line costs $179 and the coupler costs $380 for 4 pieces of brass about 4 in long and a longer electrical line. Again, everything is supposed to be precharged, including the couplers. This is all on top of the $2800 I spent for the unit at Costco. Now I still have to hire someone to come out and see what's wrong with it. I'm sure MrCool didn't want you complaining about their pricing at all so they happily sent you a unit to promote. I'll continue to try making my unit work since I put a lot of hard work into installing it, but I'll never buy MrCool products again.

I see you went with the minimum 8/2 wire for the outdoor electrical connection, was the reason to choose that over the 6/2 recommended just a matter of cost? I'm looking to purchase the wire for mine today, so am not sure if I should spring for the 6/2 or just go 8/2 like you did. Thanks!

We installed a MrCool for our new construction here in San Juan County, WA, and are quite pleased with it, but were dismayed that the State Electrical Inspector would not pass it with the electrical wires provided. We needed to replace the electrical wires from the air handlers with the tray cable approved by code. Plus, we were required to put those wires into conduit where they exited the wall going to the condenser. MrCool didn't reply to our inquires of why they don't provide cables that meet code or suggest that conduit be used. Plus, we could not figure out how to hard wire in the wall thermostat, and the batteries run down pretty quick. Nevertheless, we are quite happy with it.

Great Video, I have a question about the refrigerant charge. It looks to me like the refrigerant is stored in the Compressor / condenser unit and not in the actual lines. The lines look open after you removed the protective covers. This would indicate that they are not under a vacuum either. Is this the case? If so, would I not be able to cut and shorten the lines if needed? I would solder a union joint in the pipe to avoid flares and threaded end issues. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

I'm no pro by any means. That being said, from what I can tell is this. The terminology used in my opinion is misleading. Not the fault of Josh as all manufacturers of the DIY units use the same terminology. They keep stating that the line set is "pre charged" which is misleading. The refrigerant is Pre charged in the compressor unit for the line set. The line set itself is actually "Pre vacuumed" not "pre charged". The ends remain sealed until connected therefore no need to pull a vacuum before releasing the refrigerant. It's actually a waste of money on the "Pre Charged DIY systems" as getting a vacuum pump and gauge set is relatively inexpensive and performing a vacuum on the line set is simple. You can get a regular Mini split system for about half the price of these units and the vacuum equipment can be had for less than $130. It's really a simple process. Random question to who may know... This might be a dumb question, I might be a little confused ha Say you have well water: the submersible pump brings it to the pressure tank, pressure tank through the filters you have/need, then the cold water is ready for use. There's a line that diverts off to the hot water heater and the cold water heads down the dip tube and heats up, so far correct? the question is the hot water in the water heater still pressurized by the pressure tank or is there some sort of pump that the heater has?

I guess it's easy to love this Mr. Cool if it's free. I paid for mine. Mine did not come with a hole saw. The tape they give you does not have a sticky side. How are you supposed to get it to adhere to the lines when you wrap them? The mounting bracket is so short you can't hit more than one stud on the inside mounting. The piece they give you to go through the wall sticks out on the inside because you have to drill the wall, so the pipe has a downward slant so when you put the plastic through the wall it isn't flat to the wall. Customer service is very slow, and the instructions could use some rewording. I'm going to fire it up on Saturday and if it doesn't work the way I want it to it's going back in the box back to Amazon.

21:48 "Nice clean professional look" Yeah but in that shot the camera is conveniently angled so it doesn't show that HUGE COIL of excess lineset. Which, I might add, is NOT protected from the "sun and weather" (19:34) in any way. If that coil is fine unprotected, then the rest of it would have been fine unprotected too. Makes no sense. "It looks nicer though", you may say. Yes it does. But that's not what you gave as a reason when you were putting it up. That hard plastic covering was going to make those lines "last many many years". But the excess coil is not covered so you're saying that part of the coil will NOT last "many many years"? If any part of the line is breached the whole thing is lost. In fact that coil on the ground is MORE prone to damage due to animals, lawn equipment, women, bigfoots, etc. Makes no sense. Yeah I know I could build myself a covering if I bought this kludgy system but I'm not talking about my theoretical install. I'm talking about this video.
