I have found your past clips interesting, but have a concern. I noticed you throw the main breaker while all others circuits are powered on. It has been my practice to shut off all or most other breakers before throwing main. Any merit to powering off other loads first thus saving a possible high current arc on main?

I don't know which ones are installed in the US, but here in Germany the (new) main breakers are also there for over current and short circuit protection and should therefore be able to switch high currents. But in old installations there might just be a simple breaker or I would rather call it switch. Those should not be switched under load as they're not made for it. So I guess it depends.

I had an Electrical Company install an additional circuit breaker panel to my garage. It is straight to the meter box. Since this is coming from the meter box and not from the house main panel is this considered a main panel at the garage? If so as I have watched many of your videos should this have a ground rod? I believe they ran the ground back to the meter base and then bonded the new circuit breaker box. I went with an electrical contractor as I am not comfortable coming directly from the meter box to the circuit breaker box I look forward to your reply Jeff

It's a lot easier on a seimens or eaton panel. Square D isn't my favourite to work on.

Turning the main breaker off is a great safety idea, but who wants to have to turn off their computers and reset their clocks? Am I rite? :P

Isn't that the way it was typically done? Except for turning off the main. That's a bit better protection but not really significant. Being very cautious and skilled and connecting to an open breaker and then snapping it in at the end was never very scary for me. If the enclosure design is crappy, disconnect the supply. If it is normal, use common sense and don't be afraid. we're getting a little too paranoid here. Be careful, don't be stupid, and you'll live another day.
