Fine job young man - whenever I cut capillary tube liquid line - I would use a triangular file and score the cap tube on each side and slightly wiggle the cap line back and forth to break free - this leaves the inside diameter of the cap tube completely open as the cap tube does not get crushed closed by using diagonal pliers to cut. I was taught years ago - that Azeotropic refrigerants can be charged in vapor form - Yes - they are compound refrigerants ( compounds of different refrigerants ) but an Azeotropic refrigerant ACTS as one compound On the other hand the newer BLENDS - DO NOT act as one refrigerant - so one must charge in liquid form out of the bottle - otherwise the BLEND will actually fractionate / separate when charging and your system will not cool properly because you do no have the FULL BLEND as a whole - BLENDS also display a temperature glide. This is why - if - a system which uses a BLEND refrigerant develops a leak - one is suppose to recover the remaining refrigerant - IF ANY REMAINS - repair the leak - pull the vacuum - then recharge the blend in liquid form to ENSURE that the charge / blend is correct , IE : properly done - the tech is not supposed to just add additional refrigerant - That being said - occasionally one can GET LUCKY - if you will - and get away with adding additional charge - on smaller systems. I have quickly located a leak on smaller systems ( Typically a mechanical connection / flare or a service valve leaking and the sealing cap missing ) and was LUCKY to just TOP OFF CHARGE - if you will . 🙂👍✌️

Great job again Ben. One thing I have to ask? Over 55 years ago I was taught to only use the gas side of a tank when refilling a system, even though I admit, I've been in a hurry on a large commercial unit, and have used the liquid side (inverted tank) very carefully. With small units you can liquid lock the compressor and damage it! while filling. Maybe 404 is different? I'm old school back in the day we used R12 and R22 on our commercial units thanks again. Keep up the good work and get a leash for kitty cat! Johnson Refrigeration, retired.

That fridge has some nice dents in the back. I wonder if it took a nice fall or a couple hits during shipping and that caused the failure to the pump.

When drawing vacuum on a refrigerator after replacing an evaporator and dryer is it ok to only vacuum system out thru the piercing valve I installed on compressor tube which i assume is suction (this is where I add refrigerator)? The filter dryer does not have a port where I can also draw vacuum which I assume would be the high side?

Honestly the certification is not that difficult. Personally I wouldn't be afraid to go out and get it so that I could do my own refrigerant work. I'm not entirely sure that an individual is allowed to do the test or if you need to be associated with a company?

Great Video. May I ask. How many pressure PSI for low side and high side and superheat and subcooling is good for refrigeration ? Thank you for sharing. I'm new
@BenjaminSahlstrom
@BenjaminSahlstrom Жыл бұрын
It depends. Factory charge is always what you shoot for and giving a recommendation on specific temperature and pressure readings is tricky. Maybe I'll make a video about it.
@coycarlson4979
@coycarlson4979 Жыл бұрын
The refrigerant charge superheat and subcooling is always considered on larger systems which use an expansion valve metering device for refrigerant flow into the evaporator . On smaller units which use a capillary tube for refrigerant flow - the capillary tube diameter and length is engineered for proper pressure differential between the compressor discharge ( high side ) and the compressor suction ( low side ) - that being said - since capillary tubes are just piping with a small internal diameter the liquid refrigerant is simply free to circulate as the compressor is energized and it is the small internal diameter which creates resistance to refrigerant flow and therefore the pressure differential between the high and low side pressures of the system. The refrigerant charge for smaller , capillary tube units is - what is considered - a CRITICAL CHARGE - and must be fairly exact - as TOO MUCH charge and you flood the evaporator and TOO LITTLE charge and you starve the evaporator - the result is - either way you will not achieve proper cooling and cannot maintain proper temperatures. The thing one must ALWAYS remember as a technician - read the nameplate nomenclature and see what the engineer states is the correct charge amount and always weigh the charge. On larger systems - there will be a sight glass used on the liquid line as and aid used in determining when a system is full - and yes - on larger systems with expansion valve metering check superheat and subcooling . 👍✌️

Your system doesn't have a King valve, simply a service valve. King valve is on outlet of the receiver.
@BenjaminSahlstrom
@BenjaminSahlstrom Жыл бұрын
Interesting. Have always called this style of valve a "king valve".
@rodgraff1782
@rodgraff1782 Жыл бұрын
@@BenjaminSahlstrom I hear that a lot of times. There is only one king valve as Glen above stated. Just because they look the same has nothing to do with it. It is the valve location that determines if it is a king valve

I was wondering the same thing, especially with the foul smell that was coming from the system when he cut the lines. That system IS acidic and the new compressor will get slaughter.
