I bought a 14 x 6 Shed from Power shed based on this video and quality of materials used. However the shed I received is constructed with very very bad quality , tiny pieces of cut timbers , many broken cladding pieces. The demo video is not reflecting the real quality of power shed material. So I ended up buying plywood for walls. In general it was fun building it, I learnt something new that by drilling a hold in tiny timbers, the dont brake.

HI i just saw this great video, i am about to order a 18 x 8 power shed pent shed from POWER SHEDS. i just wanted to ask (as mad as this sounds) can i add heavy duty castor wheels at appropraite intervals to the bottom of the shed to raise it off my entire floor paving slabs (its all level). This is so when i need to service the shed, to treat the wood/roof, maint etc, i can move the shed slightly to get to areas of sheds i could not get to if it was not on castors? obviously, i would empty out the shed before attemtping to move it.

@Doobeydoobeydont
@Doobeydoobeydont 2 жыл бұрын
Not quite. Built a 10x8 today (that's feet, from the 70s in case you are wondering, didn't we decimalise in 1971? ). Leaving an overhang, i.e the bit of roof that sticks out beyond the front 'wall' of your shed if you looked at it from the side, needs to match the depth of the barge boards you fit later at the front. The booklet you get with your shed omits this, as does this vid where the chap in the vid leaves a random unspecified 60mm or so. Basically, when your roof is on spend some time checking how much roof projects from the front and back by looking at the next step in the build process and just how much front overhang you need. Cannot believe I posted about sheds or making smartypants comments about decimalisation. Turning 55 isn't really vey rock 'n' roll.
@powersheds

Hi Alistair - thanks for the message. Yes, the shed industry still advertises sheds in imperial measurements - so we are all very used to the old fashioned way of talking in feet and inches! The positioning of the base is indeed really important when considering the roof overhang - we appreciate you pointing this out. At the beginning of our instructions there is a section on bases and the need for a shed to sit on a firm and level base. One key bit of advice for bases on the list of bullet points in the instructions is to ensure the base is not placed too close to any walls or fences as there may be a slight overhang on the roof. I am sorry if you feel this was omitted but it should be there in all of our instruction booklets.

Thanks for the message - building a garden shed can be quite a daunting task for those who have not done it before. Our garden sheds do come with fixings and assembly instructions to help you put it up (plus videos such as these). But, even with this, many customers often ask how long it will take them to assemble their shed. If you have not chosen to get someone to install the shed for you then, then the shed is designed so that you can install it yourself without prior knowledge. This time does depend on your experience and skill level, but as a guide (for someone who has not put a shed up before) you are looking at around 4 hours on average. 4×4 to 8×6 sheds - 2-3 hours 10×6 to 14×6 sheds - 3-4 hours 16×6 sheds and above - 4-5 hours

Would it be ok to put some waterproof roof underlay on before the felt for double protection?
@powersheds
@powersheds 2 жыл бұрын
The only issue you may have is that the felt (which is water proof) also allows the timber to breathe. Therefore if the roof boards were wet (e.g. from condensation) then it wouldn't dry as easily. It may be better speaking to the underlay company to see if the wood can still breathe / dry properly.

I just knocked together one of your 8x4 sheds last night. I started late so ran out of time. I got as far as getting the roof on. the rain today has been heavy so the roof is soaked. Should I wait for it to dry before adding the felt or can it dry from the inside? Also, as I built it as tight as possibel against an existing fence, I now can't add the cover lats to the rear of the shed. Are these important or can I leave it off that one join?
@powersheds
@powersheds 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment and questions. You can put the felt on a wet roof as the felt allows the product to breathe and therefore dry. The cover lats cover the join in the panel to ensure the shed is waterproof and so it is quite important. You can pre-build a side with the cover lat already attached and move the whole side into position. The other option, should space allow, is if the shed is empty a couple of people can push the shed out of position which may allow you get to that side close to the fence to add the cover lat. I hope this helps. If you have further questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Hi Jan. Thanks for the message. You can use the key to pull the door shut and, if you want, could then lock it from the inside. The other option would be to use the second turn button we send on the inside by adding it to the internal door framing, and this will allow you to keep the door closed from the inside. @powersheds

Hi Daniel - thanks for the comment and great question! You can do but water should not get in if you don't - the cover lats will stop this. However, if you feel you are in a particularly windy area etc which is susceptible for water to creep in (which would be rare) then this will not do any harm! I had the same issue. The gables would not sit flush on the frame as the featherboard was too tight on the gable, and mine were not tounge/groove as shown in the video. Instead it relies on the featherboard overlapping. To resolve this, I gently loosened the featherboard with the claw end of a hammer, lined it up flush and attached it. I then re-secured the featherboard with a final tap to make sure it was not too loose. This worked well. The rest of hte installation went smoothly, apart from one of the roof panels was very badly warped (over 3" of taper) so I had to shim that before applying felt. Fine if you have the tools, annoying if you dont.

The video doesn't show the entire length of the roof felt being nailed down. I'm taking it the entire length needs to be nailed down on every piece of felt hanged? Also I presume the length of felt doesn't come pre cut into 3 pieces. Do you recommend a measurement to cut 3 pieces for a 8 x 6 pent shed? And does it matter where I hammer in the nails? Should I be trying to aim for a part of the roof with a piece of timber under it? I'm worried otherwise I will be nailing straight through the roof of the shed.

Yes, the entire length needs to be tacked down. The felt may indeed need cutting down as some lengths are longer. The 8x6 will come with a 16ft length of felt which can be cut in half. Why dose it take 2 months to deliver?

We have two months worth of orders. There is an incredible demand for sheds at the moment and a global shortage of timber

yet another vid exposing hinge screws, why fit a lock when you can unscrew the hinges from outside
@powersheds
@powersheds 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Pete - thanks for the comment. We do offer a security shed option which comes with anti vandal screws and a more secure lock. However, as I am sure you are aware, if someone wants to break into a wooden shed, they will be able to regardless of the screw hinges. The most common way of breaking into a shed is now unscrewing the roof..! If there is anything particularly valuable in a shed you may wish to consider a number of security features such as alarm, internal locks / security post, bolts for the hinge screws etc.

Well, it's time to do what women do best...COMPLAIN. I bought the 8 x 12 pent and as customer services are well aware now, I'm disappointed with the issues I've had considering the price and the companies trust pilot rating. • large router mark on one floor panel (new one sent out but that is also damaged and is cut too small so I've had to use the first damaged panel anyway). • dip treatment hasn't 'stuck' to several panels in lots of places (2 small bottles of dip treatment sent out for me to paint them). • issues with nails on one window panel (2 nails in one hole with a very sharp edge and no way to remove them, so a replacement was sent). • double door which comes preassembled wasn't square and so wouldn't shut on one side (Had to undo hinges and reassemble). Hole for bolt is also too big meaning someone could easily get something behind the door to break in to it. • joists on 2 of the small roof panels are out of line. One could be tweaked using a lot of force, the other there's no chance and there's now a good 2" gap between the joist and the supporting struts (I might be using the wrong terminology there). • missing 4 ground stakes on delivery (now recieved) • despite diagonal floor measurements being correct, floor panels do not fit flush together in places (and I don't mean the tongue and groove, as I'm aware theyre not supposed to slot together). • some of the base wood is warped (not a big deal, just a shame). I asked for a discount considering the problems, the delay in putting the shed up due to the issues, and the fact I'd hired someone to come and errect the shed for the day (but he could only work half a day max due to the problems that arose). I was told by email that they are not liable for installer costs because I should have checked everything on the pallet before proceeding... quite difficult when you're a single woman with health conditions who couldn't have unloaded the pallet alone. Along with the 2 replacement panels, Powersheds sent out a damaged £40 planter as a good will gesture (wood was ripped when cut as opposed to clean cuts on 2 panels. Hope that makes sense) and didn't come with the screws needed to put it together. But it did come with a drill bit. I had to laugh 😂 That's where I'm at so far. The shed is up but I'm yet to install the trims and roof felt. I will admit that despite the problems, it's a good looking shed and if Powersheds had better quality control, I'd be singing their praises. The guys I've spoken to on the phone and via email have been very helpful and tried to deal with any problems as quickly as possible. However I am not particularly impressed with how the company (I assume the managers) dealt with this situation. The fact that a shoddy £40 damaged planter and a damaged floor panel were sent out to an already disgruntled customer is a disgrace. Every email or phone call I recieved I was told 'we're a small business' which is no excuse. If anything, that should make you try harder to please your customers. Fingers crossed there are no more complaints once it's finished 🤞 Edited to add: I'm very grateful for this video as there were a few stages where the instructions were not quite broad enough (like how many screws to use for each thing etc).

@@powersheds just letting others know. I'm sure many people have had great experiences and had that been the case for me, I really would be singing your praises. I feel like I got every faulty part in the warehouse 😂🤦‍♀️ I will pop another email over to Chris so that everything is in one email and can all be relayed back to management and (hopefully) QC
