Nice attic ladder and great job installing it! I absolutely love that "angle measuring" thing👍Annnd, I loved the part where you said: "What I'm about to do now... I don't recommend that anybody does, on their own. I'm gonna install this myself."😲🔨💪🙈✋😎👏Thank you for another great vlog!💕

What a great job you did! You make it look so easy. I'm inspired to invest in some basic tools. Probably a drill to start with. I want to learn how to do small projects around the house, instead of paying someone else to hang a simple picture.

Interesting watching these pull down steps go in. I've never seen them installed before as I wanted steps instead of a pull down in our garage attic. We had steps in the original part of the house, now no, steps, so have to use a really long ladder. lol But don't use that attic now. Your new steps look way more sturdier and safer than your old ones. Nice job!

You make everything you do look so easy. I love your videos because you explain them in a way that anyone can do them. I'm curious as to what you're going to do with the rest of the stairs? Short step ladder? I like these stairs a lot better. I know Koda will too. 😀 Are you going to do a video on taking down the old ones? Take care!
@TheFixerHomeRepair
@TheFixerHomeRepair 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Peach! Yes, Koda likes these a lot better haha. I think I am just going to add taking down the old stairs to the remodel time-lapse. I haven't had much time to do anything else since the remodel started. I have one video to edit and after that I will have to figure it out. BUT the time-lapse should be a huge video so stay tuned. Thanks so much for your constant support and kind words!

Congratulations on your installation. I noticed that you cut a significant length of the bottom section of ladder. I'm not sure of your ceiling height, standard ceiling height is either around 8' or 9'. Yours appears to be closer to the 8' mark. They sell ladders that are adjustable in height of from 7' - 8' 9" reducing the amount of the bottom section to be cut, not to mention that it most likely would be less money out of your pocket. The only downside to your method of installation using the border trim to temporarily support the ladder unit for solo installation is that you can't square or evenly space the ladder in the opening so that one side doesn't use thicker (more shims) to fill the gap with out a second helper in the attic to make the adjustments. Heavy and long enough screws can compensate for the extra wide gap, but that's why in the instructions, they tell you to secure temporary supports underneath the attic ladder unit so that it can be centered/squared in the opening with somewhat evenly spaced shims resulting in a more secure installation. Chances are that your method of installation will be sufficient, but I always plan for the worst case scenario, ie. hauling something heavy up/down the ladder and/or a heavy individual using the ladder with either scenario testing the limits of the load capacity. Being a carpenter with over 45 years of experience, I've witnessed some structural failures because of cut corners from recommended procedures in installations. Better safe than sorry. Enjoy your new attic ladder.

Really nice video, I've been wanting to install an attic ladder myself. My issue is the ceiling height in my hallway is only 6'11", so it is below the minimum length for all of the available attic ladders. To cut the ladder to the necessary length would require removal of the bottom third piece of the ladder completely, which is impossible since it keeps the ladder rigid. I was wondering how difficult you think it would be to shorten the middle piece of the ladder in order to shorten the overall length while keeping the bottom piece.

Do you have any tips for removing screws that are stripped? I'm removing old hardware from kitchen cabinets and all the hardware was painted over and rusted.

Oh, that would make a good video! I would say, if they are flathead, use a flat head screwdriver, hold it at an angle in the groove and hammer the paint out. If they are phillips, hold the screwdriver straight on the screw, hammer it, hold pressure and turn. Almost like an impact driver. Hope this helps! Thanks for checking out all my videos, Toni! And thanks for joining my live events. They are a lot of fun!
