@@robertspargal9261 Then you haven't used much chainsaws or you live at warm climate. With cold oil and gas caps can be very hard to open. For that there is slot for flat screwdriver and many times it have been the only way to open my husqvarna chansaw caps. With my stihl it never have been issue, because of thoes special caps.

My thoughts exactly. These goofy caps are another example of Germans over engineering creating a problem where none existed before

A few years back I received a letter from Stihl stating there was a recall on this cap and to see a Stihl dealer for replacement. My dealer replaced the cap at no charge and I have had no problems since. Thanks for all the tips Steve.

I got that letter, if I remember correctly the ethanol in the fuel would attack them. I remember changing out a few gas caps on John Deere mowers that the rubber seal turned to black goo.

I have multiple Stihl saws and trimers. Thge older units have a screw cap which has NEVER been a problem. The new hi tech, foolproof toolless design has been a constant issue, from not starting in correctly to leaking, to just vibrating out. As the comment before me notes, a solution to a problem that didn't exist. Thanks for the explanation of the cap mechanics tho. That will help. I was gonna send you a beer for that tip,, but the bottle had a hole in it and it leaked into my glass.

I had a similar problem with the oil cap on a Stihl chainsaw. I discovered the problem after noticing a trail of oil leading to the saw. A fairly long trail. Took me about a half hour to clean up. Thanks for the video.

Sthil is discontinued some of these fuel caps on some of the products with a screw in fuel cap with a rubber seal now. Husqvarna has a nice fuel cap on the xp chain saws. They designed the cap with a flip out lever for removal of the cap and installing the cap. Once it's screwed in the lever folds in. Really neat.

Ah yes...the flippy cap (or flipping cap). Reminds me I need to replace the recalled caps with newer ones I bought. The flippy part broke off my gas cap due to the seal swelling and locking it up. Hopefully the new ones will hold up with the lower use my saw gets now. Good video Steve and appreciated. Too bad Stihl tries to simplify something by making it more complicated. Its not a good engineering principle.

Stihl had a HUGE problem with these caps some years back. Forest firefighters were greeted with gas spewing at them when they went to refill their saws on the go. It was such a problem that the US Forest Service banned Stihl saws for their firefighters until Stihl fixed the problem. Immediately, some aftermarket people jumped in and offered a modification/fix for a mere $100...lol. But Stihl got on it right away and the aftermarket fix disappeared. I don't know how that didn't damage/ruin Stihl, but it didn't. A great example of the German engineers over-engineering something.
