After seeing many other videos describing how to do this work, yours is the first one I have seen that shows actual DIY in getting up to the ceiling and doing the real "hands on", instead of using a tabletop model, and what to expect during the work. Thank You so very much! I want to install three ceiling fans in my house, and I don't know what's inside yet, but you have given me the confidence to tackle this job and do it right!

Thank you so much for your comment! Glad to help and I hope you got all yours installed!

Good vid. FYI, studs are the wooden members installed vertically supporting the walls. Ceiling joists are the wooden members installed horizontally supporting the ceiling.

Yea I caught that too. And then he called the screws "nuts" - at which point - the video lost all creditability lol.

I had to climb into the attic to remove the nailed-in brace from when the house was built. I then installed from there. Not sure which is easier. The crank method through the small existing hole is hard to do.
@BrickBuildingKids4 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! Had to do another one this weekend but it’s on my first floor so the attic wasn’t an option. Definitely a bit more challenging.

I actually went to look for that screwdriver and can't find that one. It's nice.

I love it. I have multiple of them. They are super nice: amzn.to/3wMrbC3

Does the bracket you attach the box to get fastened to the threaded rod or does it get held in place by compression of the 4 screws alone?
@BrickBuildingKids4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Those four screws tighten on the rod.

Hope you see this and offer an answer, my ceiling in the kitchen is with trusses and the solid board like you have, will this work with that ??? and is there anything different that I should do because of the truss
@BrickBuildingKids2 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul, for sure. As long there are two support rafters in the ceiling to creat tension between, this will work just fine.

Did you remove the metal bracket from the old box? If so how did you do it. I will watch again and see if you answer my question.
@BrickBuildingKids4 жыл бұрын
Hey. I’ve had to replace a few of these unfortunately due to our old ones cracking. I will usually put my hammer in the hole and prey out the old pieces. This video the old one was already removed. Best of luck and if you have any other questions, I would be glad to help.

@@BrickBuildingKids I will try a stubby hammer to pry with next time.

@@jgt9338 Just had a similar removal on ours. I used a mini hacksaw with a bimetal blade to cut throw it. Took a little bit, but easiest way to safely remove it without damaging our plaster ceiling.

Do all homes have studs where the box is
@BrickBuildingKids4 жыл бұрын
They should have it somewhere around it.

@@BrickBuildingKids thanks for the reply ive holding to a ceiling fan that ive bought like 2 weeks ago and havent installed becuase my jbox is plastic so upon trying to do it just like that without a ceiling fan box i decided not to becuase upon lookin at my box it said 15lb maximim weight and one screw just kept spinng when i messed with it so my next attempt wold be getting one of them braces so i have a mobile home and was wondering if of course every house should have studs next to the box
@evanmorgan12084 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyGarcia-rw8uw if you cut your hole and it falls on a ceiling joyce you'd want to get a fan rated pan box. Looks like a pancake and screws directly to joyce with a couple wood screws. If the hole falls between two joyces in the bay then you would use the brace style box as in the video.

My original box was close to one stud (not in the middle). Any concern of that? Any feedback will be appreciated!!
@BrickBuildingKids3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes they can be connected right to the joist. It’s ok. This will just give you a better and solid box for your fan or light.
