Here's a nit pick: That post was not vertical or plumb. (which would be the right terminology) Level is an approximately horizontal line or surface taken as an index of altitude.

Personal experience talking here. I'd advise an assistant to do these simple installs, because on average, the u channel will twist during the drive, mainly from the rocks and other debris in the ground, and the assistant can twist the channel back into place as you continue the drive

Is that legal to put a post so close to a fire hydrant?Since you can't park next to one within 15', it seems putting something in the ground would be the same.

Thanks for your question Thomas! To the best of our knowledge, there is no federal code that prohibits the installation of a sign post within a certain distance of a fire hydrant. Now, that’s not to say that your town could not write and pass a law of their own that does. In a situation such as this, we would strongly recommend that you check first with your own local municipality to make sure that the post installation you wish to do is permitted. In addition to this, we would also strongly recommend that you check with your local utilities first before you begin ANY sign post installation, in order to avoid accidentally damaging underground utility lines in the area.

Also, its much easier with the assistant to hold the channel level, if it falls out of level, than it is to correct it yourself. Nothing "manly" about doing this by yourself. If you want to make it look good, dont pride yourself doing it by yourself. Help is there for a reason

Had one mounted like this... someone came in and just wiggled it a few times and stole it in about 1 minute..... they don't cement them any more?
@god12465 жыл бұрын
Not supposed to cement the poles because if someone drives into it can hurt them, but you are supposed to pack the dirt around the pole so its not so loose

There is no mention of properly orienting the "face" of the channel. Sign caps are either 90 or 180 degrees, so the channel had better not be at some other weird angle or the signs won't be facing where you want them.

It's a good idea to wear ear plugs before starting the pounding.

You DON'T want your post to be level. No one will be able to see the sign - because it will be lying flat on the ground. Level means parallel with the horizon. Use a level or plumb bob to make sure your post is PLUMB - meaning straight up and down.

Anyone have any ideas where to find a 7 ft post?
@emedco6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question John! Unfortunately, we stopped selling 7 ft. U-Channel Posts a few years ago. One question for you, though... Have you considered purchasing an 8 ft. post, and then driving the post into the ground a foot deeper? That extra foot might make a huge difference come wintertime. If a post isn't driven far enough into the ground so it is below the frost line, when the soil freezes in winter, that post could be pushed right back up and out of the ground again. This is called "frost heave", and it can turn your nice and neat parking lot, into a crooked mess by springtime if you're not careful. Hope this of help to you!
