Welcome back to the channel! In this video I explain the string method used to install front or back glass on a classic car. This method can be applied to a variety of vehicles that utilize a rubber glass channel around the glass. Factory used a sealant the old guys called " dum- dum" around windshield. It remained pliable for years. I pulled w/s out of my 60 Impala to find some of it was still soft to an extent. Good job on car! I imagine a new w/s would be closer to $700 plus shipping, a big expense. Hope yours doesn't crack.

Yes. I think "3m bedding and glaze" is something similar. This car had alot of that dum dum all over the window channel. Never dries.

@@allanfranklin9615 you can used plumber putty in the window channel so it can sealed better if not it’s going to leak water in between the sealed the factory did it

i also spray the flange with glass clean it helps the rubber sit in place

When I got my window replaced in my 64, they used the same materials of modern cars to seal it especially to keep it from rusting more as just the rubber alone isn't enough, and it strengthens the holding of the glass Also may have been better to get the bottom in first

Hi, On my 1970 nova all the channels are new bare metal. Should I leave it bare before painting the whole car to prime or you want the car painted 1st then i sand and prime/install? Thanks john

@@lonestarlows basically I'm restoring the whole car and the windshield channels were really rusty so I'm guessing to paint the whole car and then only to apply primer to the area where the windshield sits. Or por15 just the channel area

@Supanova70 I see. There's no need to put expensive paint in areas like that. Por15 is a good solution I had mine sand blasted and epoxy primer. Then during the paint process just sprayed some color and dusted the clear on. Didn't treat it like the rest of the car

@@lonestarlows okay sounds like a plan I have no choice other than to use epoxy now because I used ospho acid base rust treatment. I will neutralize wire brush the epoxy for now. Ty

Also do you have footage of you connecting the convertible rack cyclinder. I have a rag 61 but the cyclinder were not connected and I have no idea how the mount to the floor section.

VW a lot easier, smaller, flat, lighter to handle, but same procedure.

@@lonestarlows & Some 70's diesel windows and buses are the same . Some old LTR bus windows etc you did a nice job slow easy on the rubber
