great info, but two questions. if you are running a long gutter, with downspouts at each end, how do you slope the gutter to each spout? secondly, with a gutter section that connects to an inside miter, that connects to a longer section with a down spout, how do you set up the proper slope so both sections drain to the down spout?

When my gutter go up, I don't want to think about the for the next 20 years, other than annual cleaning of leaves and debris. Is it not a good practice to apply the sealant to the downspout outlet flange and the end cap recess seam before assembling them to the gutter run? Second application of sealant is applied to the same seams after the assembly is completed. One extra tube of gutter sealant to do a whole house is pretty cheap insurance.

Thanks a lot for the tips - appreciated. Suggestions: music is ok at the beginning, end or transitions not during the presentation please. Wished you ended the video by screwing few more pieces. Do u use the level at all? Would following screws be next to the ones you just screwed in or at the very opposite end?. Gutter drain hole end and the distance from the edge should have been carefully considered based on the roof design prior to drilling? What if you need elbows or awkward spot to pore water at the ground. Cheers.

Like the way you explained everything in detail. I would like to know what is needed for 6" gutters.(material wise) and tool wise.I have (2) runs of 40' & (2) runs of 21 'plus 52' of downspouts.I live in Cincinnati,don't know of any shop and drop for gutters. I see you are located in the north-east,don't guess you have any stores in Ohio. Again great job on the Vid.
@Everythinggutter
@Everythinggutter 10 жыл бұрын
All material and tools will practically be the same for 6" size gutters. First all the material will be 6" in size - end caps,gutter,hangers etc.... The gutters are installed the same way stated in this video and the same tools are used. The only one difference besides the size is the downspouts. You will have to use the larger 3x4 size downspouts and larger outlets. I recommend for homeowners to use the 3 3/8" pop in outlets for easy installation of the 3x4 downspouts. So you will need to pick up a 3 3/8" hole saw. For any of your material just contact any local building supply store witch can be found online or in your local phone book. Note: If they sell roofing shingles/supplies they will have all the material you need for your DIY gutter installation!!! With the funds you will save doing a DIY we also recommend you install gutteredge.com to eliminate the gutter from staining and if you need a gutter guard shurflowgutter.com visit here for a DIY gutter guard kit or purchase any aluminum perforated gutter guard. This type of gutter guard is the recommended choice for affordability and ease on maintenance. Hope this helps, Thanks Jimmy

What gauge aluminum do you recommend for the gutters? In So Cal, average 15"' rain a year and 1/2-1 inch max at a time. 10-12 pitch? I have watched a lot of videos on gutters and yours are by far the best and most professional. You are the only one that explained how drip edge is done to compensate for drop. Excellent!
@Everythinggutter
@Everythinggutter 7 жыл бұрын
I usually recommend .027 gauge anything over that is usually installed as a sales tactic. If installed correctly with the proper amount of hangers there should be no issue's. The other option is to go with the thickest which is .032. I prefer .027 less wasteful with the same results:) Gutter gauge .027 and .032 are both considered a quality heavy duty gauge aluminum. Also note the average gauge at your local hardware store gutters are approximately .010.

Good video over all. However do have some comments. Please correct me if I am wrong on any of them. To start I do believe there is a standard on the slope. I was taught half an inch for every 10 feet of length. Another thing I like to add the rubber sealant to the caps before installation. You get a seal both ways. I am just OCD and want to insure a good seal. The last thing I would also advise is the placement of the gutter. I always place a straight edge on the roof letting it over hang. Then bring the gutter up to where the outer edge of the gutter just touches the straight edge. Then I would mark the spot and mark a chalk line to the other end. This helps keep the slope correct. The reason to hang them like this is. Is in areas with snow fall. If the gutter is mounted to high. Ice or snow can and will slide down the roof and if it catches the edge of that gutter. It can rip it off. If not cause damage that will lead to a repair.

Make change..jis got gutters the other day i dont think my downspouts are sealed...do i call back and have them sealed? Will they leak?
@chrisgraham2904
@chrisgraham2904 4 жыл бұрын
You are correct! These are all important installation factors, especially in northern climates. I will also add that gutter hanger placement or spacing should always be determined by the spacing of the rafter tails. At least hit the every second or third rafter tail, if not every one, wherever possible to insure the gutters stay put and properly aligned. Don't rely on attachment to the facia boards, particularly on older homes. Attachment through the rafter tail attaches the gutter and re-secures the facia. A 10 foot gutter length of 5" gutter filled with ice can weigh 50 to 60 pounds. A 50 foot run could hold 300 pounds of ice, the equivalent of a fat man hanging from your gutters.

nice vid was wondering are those mounting clips better than the big gutter screw through the face ,they def look better but what about installing the black foam gutter guard inserts, looks like they are going to be all in the way? Is it mainly personal preference .
@Everythinggutter
@Everythinggutter 8 жыл бұрын
+Kat Franzoni The type of hanger in the video id currently the best out there. They can be purchased from a direct supplier for a DIY "Amazon" or from a professional gutter installer. The hangers found at your local hardware stores like Home Depot or Lowes will NOT work. The black foam gutter guard is not recommended. Best way to look at that type of gutter guard is think of a fish filter. Last it's Not personal preference, recommended to use the right or I should say the professional quality material to complete the job correctly and that it will last as it should:)

hi jimmy excellent video ,I have a question,,,do you have a generator to connect the seamless gutters machine ? or where do you get the power for the machine thank you
@Everythinggutter
@Everythinggutter 7 жыл бұрын
Most times we will get the power needed from the job. We don't use a generator we use a high powered inverter. Any electrical shop can install this. Tip, always check with your gutter machine manufacturer because the machine will list its amps need to run that is low, the amp draw to get the machine started is EXTREMELY high for most machines.

Thank you for the videos! We are looking to install gutters on the back side of the house. There is a place where the roof line travels horizontally, but then it makes a 30 degree angles run for about 1.5 to 2 feet, then runs horizontal again. What is the best way to accomplish this? I was thinking of using a 5 inch seamer and using screws and geocel at each joint where the angles change.

Jimmy, first off, Great video! I am going to assume you shoved the gutter up under the drip guard? Thanks Rob
@Everythinggutter
@Everythinggutter 9 жыл бұрын
Rcnages Correct:) Note, sometimes at the downspout end the gutter won't always make it behind the drip edge. If that is the case, make sure the drip edge is bent out past the back edge of the gutter. This will eliminate water from going behind the gutter:) Drip edge purpose- It's there only to divert the water from the edge of the roof into the gutter, to eliminate water from going behind the gutter!

Should I lower the gutter a bit to allow for ice and snow to run off without hitting the gutter and ripping it off?
@Everythinggutter
@Everythinggutter 7 жыл бұрын
The gutter will never be lowered to avoid snow and ice. Two things, make sure the gutters are properly maintained another pointer is you could possible have snow guards installed to prevent the snow and ice from sliding. If you are experiencing anything other then normal function at any time of the year I would recommend having the gutters fully evaluated and water tested!

I have a 76' straight run, obviously a seamless piece would be incredibly unwieldy to move, hang, handle. What would be your recommendation for a minimum/maximum piece length?
@Everythinggutter
@Everythinggutter 7 жыл бұрын
The limit would be the coil, a 76' seamless gutter can easily be installed with the right installer. Recommend one guy for every 30' 3-4 guys can easily hang that span of gutter, hope that helps, Thanks Jimmy:)

NO! A 76 foot gutter will probably fail where there is any type of temperature change. Aluminum stretches and shrinks.

Is it okay to attach (screw to) the gutter to the clay tile (the last row that sticks out too much)?
@Everythinggutter
@Everythinggutter 9 жыл бұрын
Au Tom The gutters need to be for this roofing type attached to either the facia or rafter beams. If you have neither you will need to contact a local gutter professional this might need to be visually inspected. Note: A larger gutter might be needed. If you find you are stuck and need a more detailed solution please email me a video or some pictures!!!

Don't you have to put the gutter under the drip cap? I know that if you have a really long run that one end will hang below the drip cap, so you have to start on the high end as far up the back of the drip cap as possible.

What gauge metal are these gutters? My roof has a metal L flange which runs under edge of roof shingles and hangs down 2" okay to mount gutter under this?
@Everythinggutter
@Everythinggutter 7 жыл бұрын
This installation was customer requested .032. Either o.32 or .027 gauge is recommended, nothing less then that. Either one is considered a heavy gauge with a small difference of .005. The L flange would be the drip edge, yes the gutter can be mounted below the drip edge. Keeping in mind the only purpose of the drip edge is to divert the water into the gutter inturn eliminating the water from going behind the gutter.

I just had a new metal roof installed on my home. It rained over this past weekend and i noticed that rain is now clearing my gutter system and running right to the ground. Any tips on how to solve this problem. Looks to be a 5" gutter in place now and as i look at the roofline the gutter looks like it doesnt stand far enough away from the roof to actually catch the rain.
@Everythinggutter
@Everythinggutter 7 жыл бұрын
You will have to use a roof strap to mount the gutter. You need at minimal 3inches from the edge of the roof to the front edge of the gutter. I would recommend in this case to contact several local gutter installers in your area for a professional fix. If you are determined to do a DIY(Do to Yourself) I would contact a local building supplier to purchase the correct hangers to rehang the gutter correctly!

Our gutters have never worked properly. Installed by our builder. Want to make sure corrected properly. Example: back of house 50"', straight line, one down spout at left corner, downspout on right around corner. Water has always poured over top of gutters all along length. So, need another downspout, need to raise in middle? What is solution? Thanks.
@Everythinggutter
@Everythinggutter 7 жыл бұрын
It is recommended one downspout for every 25-30' of gutter. I have seen 50' runs with one downspout with no drainage issue's. I would recommend simply water testing the gutter with a hose to narrow down the exact issue. Thinking a constant clogging issue or an alignment issue, water test to verify:)

Now that I'm ready to hang my two ten-foot sections of gutter with a slight decline to the downspout, I'm having trouble fitting the back edge of the gutter under the drip strip at this decline with the hangers attached. There doesn't seem to be any room to allow for the slope. What am I missing? thx

Why do you not put caulk inside the end caps prior to installing on the ends. Keep the caulk out of the gutter.

What is the longest run for a single end downspout? I've seen 40 max to 60 ft.
@Everythinggutter
@Everythinggutter 7 жыл бұрын
It is recommended every 25-30' a downspout be placed. I have also seen 60' runs with one downspout with no issue's. Basically it depends on the situation like the size of the roof and is the gutter located near trees were clogging will be an issue. Bottom line try and go with the recommended option if not able keep in mind a downspout can always be added at a later time if needed.

rather than making a circular cut for the down spout, can you do a video where by u make a cut on the gutter and flare out the gutter and slide the down spout in the gutter, with out using an outlet
@Everythinggutter
@Everythinggutter 10 жыл бұрын
Cutting the gutter to make an outlet is not recommended for a DIY this takes some skill with the snips. Any DIY installation we recommend using a hole saw for a precise cut then installing a pop-in outlet as noted in the video! We appreciate the video recommendation. We have added it to my list of videos to make. Subscribe to our channel to be notified of our newest episodes, Thanks Jimmy
