G'day Kevin from Australia. Great video ill watch this again you have some cool ideas. One thing I would do is the first fitting you put through the oil filler I would cut the length of it back the least amount in the oil filler as possible and check that thread tape. You don't want any excess to go for a walk and end up blocking a oil gallery. ✌

Very good idea brother!! I'll probably do that tonight!! Thanks!!

There are so many breather options out there. Anyway you can vent the engine is going to help your seals.

do you need to vent the oil filler AND the top of the case/fuel pump block-off plate?? aren't they the same pressure??. I love the way this looks and I am going to do the same thing, probably with only one breather though.

Hey JW You got more crank case venting than a 396 going on there? thats as far as you need to go. On my 63 I did not have the springs on the deck lid and would remove the hinge holder off . It was a 40hp and I would pull the fan shroud and gen. off fold up a towel ,grab the intake and drop and install the motor by hand . and to get it out from under the bug me a Joe lifted the back end over the motor, all by hand . Now we aint young no more . both in our 60s. You really have a nice bug !!!!!

Looks good, I plan on doing the same with my engine. I did see some bad reviews on evil energy fittings and lines. I know there is always one person that complains. I just want to make sure the longevity of the material is good. Else where these fittings can be super pricey.
@JWClassicVW4 жыл бұрын
So far I have no complaints for either the -6 or -8, I have seen that the kits are becoming more difficult to find. I used the -6 for all of my fuel lines and -8 for my breather system and I love it!

Hey maybe I missed it Why did you run a external filter on breather box?
@GT.Bugger4 жыл бұрын
Nice fittings.. I like that they do away with jubilee clips, looks much neater. I've only got a 1641 but I know it needs help to breathe. I've got a stick filler and I'm wondering if I can cut down the breather pipe and tap it similar to what you did in this video and feed it to one of my carbs?

Hay Jason I also want to build a 1600 engine , being a guy we all would want max horse power for no extra cost, is there perhaps a motor combination that is your favourite for street like cc, cam size ,Carbies, also taking cost into account we like max bang for our buck thanks buddy. Harry
@JWClassicVW4 жыл бұрын
This is a tough one brother... getting HP means spending money. There are some small gains to be made across the board with creative head porting, exhaust, carbs, and CAM choices. As for my favorite budget build, I've already done it with my 2276cc. Great power band with room for upgrades and improvements as I've made gradually over time.

Did you use insert nuts to mount those breather boxes to the firewall?

Nope 1/4 inch stainless hardware holding them through the firewall.
@jamiepezoulas45465 жыл бұрын
JW Classic VW oh they go all the way through.
@gutshotgriz39363 жыл бұрын
Just a thought...rather than cutting down the anodized nuts, couldn’t you rely on the compression fitting to cinch down on the nipples on the breather boxes? If you need to tweak it to get a tight fit you could use crush washers on either side of the nipples. In any case, really enjoy watching you work.
@JWClassicVW3 жыл бұрын
Can't do that with AN fittings the 37 degree fitting needs to completely seat or it will leak all over. The real fix is to use weld in bungs... just haven't stepped up to that level yet.

Step 1: Wrap the hose in Electrical tape in area to be cut. Step 2: Use a cutting disk on a grinder and make cut. Step 3: slip fitting on hose, no clean up with scissors. Give it a try!
