How to install and adjust IAC on a 1989 third gen Camaro

I did the same thing that J Robling did. Leonidas and it's also what I also read in all the forums that I looked into. However, I bought a new IAC and the instructions that came in the box didn't mention anything about doing that. In fact, instructions say that the iac will adjust on it's own. That you simply have to drive the car for 5 minutes or more at 45 + mph and that will reset the iac. Good video. Thanks.

The bit at the end to adjust is not as described in the video. Ground pin A+B at the aldl, key up, listen for the clicking at the IAC, wait 30 sec. Unplug the IAC, key off unground the aldl. Verify by running the engine with the IAC unplugged. Turn off engine, and reconnect IAC.

What's the ALDL? If read on TGO some very lengthy things on messing with the idle air screw etc.....seems they were written by some pretty knowledable guys...and talking about how you want your rrpm to be about 450 and to adjust it to there before you start this whole process etc...seemed a bit over whelming unless ur a true experiences or school trained mechanic

It can be also adjusted by twisting it if is out of its specifications.

Yes, same procedure, you need to make sure that it knows whats open and whats closed.

Are the iac valves the same on the 305 tpi and the 350 tpi just so I know I'm not buying the wrong one

Thanks for the video! Why did you need to do that procedure at the end? You first turned it to run (but not started), left the key in that position and uplugged the IAC. This opens the IAC fully you say. Shut off the ignition and then replugged the IAC in. What is that supposed to do?

its the procedure you need to do to make sure that it is in the proper position because the ecu doesn't set it

I think this sensor has gone bad on my 89 2.8 car won't start, and I already put in a new fuel pump and tank and filter so I know that is not a fuel issue

On the lt1 the hose connecting to the water pump is blocking. Is there a way change the thing without flushing the coolant?

No need to flush your coolant system, just re-add the same amount that came out when it was disconnected. Start the car with the radiator cap off and massage the coolant hose to get rid of bubbles. Put the cap back on after bubbles are gone and before it gets too hot and your good to go.

No way I think this will fix my rough idle when I start it. Once it’s warmed up it runs good no idle problem except sometimes I see a dip in idle or even the lights Ladin down for a little or even get brighter like it surges. What would cause that?

I would check the fuel pump. U should here it turn on when u turn the key to the on position. That would be my first place to look .

good video ,but you could just cleaned it with throttle body cleaner,and put it back,what happens is,carbon build up on the pintle don't let it sit right ,and air goes by it,as long as motor works there is nothing wrong with IAC !it does nothing but going in and out and when it is not in use it sits back and seals the air flow,however carbons on the tip won't let it sit and seal tight,that is why you have bad idle but when you step on gas problem goes away VIEW • VIEW •
