On the 5+, there is a fan connector beside the clock...both .1mm.2pin. with augment software, the fan pwms. Also armbian-config allows clock options for throttling...on demand is great. For full perf, go peltier with fan...best with 12v augment power. Need if your driving pins lots, jpk

Mine showed up yesterday. It's a great little device so far. The Armbian forums have kernel 6 builds up. I just can't get Armbian to boot, everything else boots fine. Armbain gives me an edless i2c timeout error.

I have the geekworm pi plus case and I think it’s very nice - although there’s no external GPIO access. Been thinking of cutting an opening in the side and adding a 90 degree 40 pin female header upside down. Also need buy a 1.25 mm micro JST to connect to the dedicated fan pins since the one that comes with it only fits the GPIO pins.

There is a FAN connector on the board, right behind the ethernet ports. Could you test your fan on that connector and see if the connector provides speed control?

It’s a different size connection. Just positive and negative connections

Very good. These passive coolers allow to use the board upside down so as to cool the *M.2* down much more efficiently (now facing north for heat to move up more easily + passive cooler + optionally a 30 / 40mm cooler) as this is *this component* that really heats up significantly. Are other chipsets on the board also heating up and to what levels? on what use cases? (an IR camera can easily tell.. ) for next tests, could you please display the temperatures over time on a graph in order to have a more visual comparison of temperature curves between cooling configurations?

When you get a PWM fan for the 5+, I would like to see your video on how you set up the fan speeds in Debian/Ubuntu.

If you ever get the time, and dont mind you should test Steams proton on the orange pi 5 plus, and see if you can run overwatch, apex, and some other esports titles... Also would there be any way to use the big heat sink with the fan on the outside of the case?

Ps. You can go ether to ether direct but i run 4op5 and 4 opi/rpi4 on a gig switch..to modem and each other. Watch to file ownership problems with naming and chown/chmod.

what about removing the fan of the case and use with the big one passively? the case should close, right?

It would have been better to use the thermal pad in both tests as it would have been a bit like for like with the coolers. Then with and without the case. I understand it isn't supposed to be exhaustive tests. But the thermal pad would have been roughly equivalent between the different heatsinks.

I figured it was obvious that the larger heat sink would perform better

Would you recommend using the stock heatsink that comes with the case, or do you think the small copper heatsinks from geekworm would be better?

With the fan it will be fine. I prefer the larger cooler without fan for silent cooling

You can't overdue thermal paste...ive seen tests and attempts. I mean...you CAN overdue it, but without being a moron lol lay a dab, spread it and press on heatsink. Forget it and enjoy the CPU it's cooling. Another great video with great info! Thanks Leeps!

So, isn't the fan connector on those white plugs on the board? I would think that white plug near the DDR memory would be the one for the fan.

I have the same set up with that case and 16mm cooler and fan inside. One question, with ubuntu i can turn it off from the system, but the fan dont stop, unless i take out the power cable. Is this right? Moreover, is there an alternative os for android in order to find a version that can use gpu acceleration ?

I see your use debian.👍 I like ubuntu more but it is quite glitchy on the 5+ (22.04/23.04). It's great on the 5 though. I'm trying to run gambas3 which works @3.18 ver on the opi5 - Ubuntu 23.04 but not on 5+ at all with ubuntu. It works well on debian 11 and gambas 3.15 on the 5+. I'm going to focus around debian for dev and work on 5+ but Ubuntu for play and study on 5. I am assembling for thumb, arm32 and arm64 with success. #32@thumb interwork but 64 needs isolation. I have not found a armxx qemu or box, just x86/64 emu. I❤️arm. 🤗👽,jpk ps my rock pi 5 crashes after about 60 hours no matter what...anyone else? All others stable over time. OS tests done...now for dev

Hello, I have a problem with my root password on my Orange Pi5 running Ubuntu. I have already flashed my system 7 times using the latest image. I have tried both M2 Boot and Micro SD, but the result is always the same. It says "Password successfully changed," but unfortunately, it remains as "orangepi." I have tried the following commands: sudo -i, sudo passwd, or sudo passwd root. Do you have the same problem? lg

It's literally the best board on the market right now. Best performance available in the ARM space, combined with best price, means best value for your money. The Plus board is particularly good with ridiculous amounts of I/O at almost the same price as the regular.
