Best video and DIY out there for downpipe work for the F8X platform. Thank you so much! I used ARM resonated DPs which are much cheaper (and sound amazing), yet differ from OEM and Stone in install; but there's more than enough in this video that's the same so that it was easy to bridge the differences. Main issue was getting the stock exhaust off because my OEM bolts would not come out of the flanges, so "dropping the exhaust down" was not happening! I had to first support the muffler and midsection with jacks and stands (use towels in between!) and THEN disconnect the whole exhaust - thank you for showing how to do that. Then I had to go to the rear of the vehicle and pull the exhaust back and off the DP flange bolts. Hard! Note also: the outermost 13mm bolt on the stock exhaust at the axleback (muffler) section is long and needs a DEEP socket. There's a good rationale for this because it makes reinstalling the rear MUCH easier, but you do need a very deep 13mm socket to finish the job!

You'll probably get downstream O2 codes. I'm not sure how that's handled on the F8x platform.

Yes it will. You will get cat efficiency codes, which can be solved with a simple tune. We won't be tuning our F80 until we address the crank hub issue, then we can give the s55 all the boost lol Thanks man!

Could you do a quick short on how to lift the engine from the passenger side engine mount to install the OEM cats back up? Was about to get a DP myself but what you just said discouraged me in case I need to put the OEM back on :(.

I have been working on my exhaust lately and was told that I can empty my stock catalytic converter and will serve the same purpose as a downpipe.. It really didn't make any sense at first but then dug more into it and it seems pretty legit.. What differentiates a 500$ ER downpipe from an emptied Catalytic Converter? i just buy a 150 us cheap cat on eBay'

What a job for us northerners 😂😂😂 ive done so much stuff on cars, and this job really kicked my ass.... I did everything I could to get the downpipes out, but i ended up having to cut my downpipes out with a sawzaw... what a pain in the ass!! Now i cant get the damn seals out of the turbo housings 😂 heats always the answer, but id hate to hit my turbo wirh a torch lol

Hey great video! I’m wondering if there is a big difference compared to putting the stock downpipes back in? I had a shop put the aftermarket one for me for around $400. And couple years later I want to have the stock exhaust back on and went to a different shop because i have moved and they quoted me $1100 to put the stock one in. They said it’s way more difficult to change it to stock and they basically need to “rebuilt” the whole exhaust. Is that the case?

If it's just downpipe, it should be a direct fit like the video. The only thing I can think of for quoting that price is if you were replacing your o2 sensors.

Anyone have personal knowledge of resonated catless downpipes for the s55 vs a regular catless downpipe? Do these little 4 inch resonators do anything for the sound? Basically is it worth it for me to buy new resonated downpipes and pay for a new install?

Is it just me that thinks thise doughnut flanges are absolutely useless? I could NEVER get my e46 to seal. Brand new gaskets every time as well.
