If you cut circular holes you keep the cut outs and best number them. Then to replace you put a 8 to 10 mm thick short piece of flat wood up into the hole which extends half the diameter of rhe hole either side . you can put a screw in it to pull the wood down onto the ceiling or use your fingers on top of the wood to hold down. You use a drywall screw up through the ceiling to hold the said wood both sides then screw your cut out to that piece of wood. It is how plasters patch fill dry wall. If they have an unsightly hole they cut an even shape in the drywall and fill it with a piece of drywall the same size and shape holding it as aforesaid.

I would say you should have cut out plasterboard before the joist with a padsaw enough to drill through the actual joist so that the cables are not against the joist and plasterboard. Also you should really be putting Earth sleeping on the CPC’s before they enter the push connectors. It seems like you have also left off the cord grips supplied with the downlights? Cord grip should be on and gripping the outer sleeving and not the conductors, and there should be a lid provided that screws on over the terminals? There should be no single insulated conductors showing, best way would have been use a choc box and take a flex to each downlight ?

1000fantomas he would use hole saw to cut into areas where joists are going across ceiling, he has no access from above. So I guess the hole saw could be used by measuring to locate joists and the underside of the joists cut , to pass cable under joist. Normally joists are located to standard span distances. Metal detectors could be used to locate plasterboard screws that are used to fix plasterboard to joists.

@@how2d223 Still not getting it. So you're not drilling into the joist, you're drilling beside the joist and then creating a 3cm channel in plasterboard to go under joist? If you are to do the work from this room, you should cut hatches in the ceiling large enough to drill through the joists at least 50mm from the ceiling, this method is not code and presents a dangerous future proposition re heating of wires and safety from nailing the wire... hey itll work the lights for this demo, but its incorrect on many levels of safety.

@Михаиллеви
@Михаиллеви 3 жыл бұрын
@@paulhill2012 he is using a hole saw. That will not remove a piece of joist. A spade bit would but not a hole saw. What has happened is he says in reply to a comment that there was lathe and plaster with plaster board over so this has given him the clearance to put back in the cut out plasterboard leaving out the lathe and plaster cut out. It is all in breach of bs7671 to run cables across joists if not either 50mm deep or mechanically protected as in this case someone may unknowingly put another layer of plasterboard on and screw into the unprotected cables

This does not comply with BS 7671. Cables should be at a depth of 50mm. Not run under the joist.as shown

PLEASE!!!!! people don’t do this ..you don’t need to turn your ceilings into a block of Swiss Cheese, flex bids are very un expensive and you can drill up to 3 ceiling joists. Use/buy a inexpensive plastic tub/ toper-ware and put it on the drill to catch all the dust!!!!! People don’t allow mediocre craftsman with lack of pride to come into your home and disrespect it by doing work like this and pay them on top of that.
