A lot of Jeepers like myself are "Do-it-yourselfers" and this is a great video with great camera angles that shows the viewer what is happening. Cleaning the parts you are working on is also a great tip. Thanks.

My aging Jeep has been rough idling and backfiring for awhile. It has new sparkplugs and fuel injectors. After it runs for a bit, it will smoothen out completely. Sometimes the old Jeep does not start at all without a squirt of starter fluid. The pump is going to be replaced. I am tired of the unreliable starting and crazy idling.

Same thing is happening to mine did this fix it?
@indridcold84332 жыл бұрын
@@RafaelTorres-fy1cf Yes, it fixed the issue. However, I waited too long and the catalytic converters were ruined. I just took them off. Change the pump before your catalytic converters fail. However, check the plunger in the throttle body first. Make sure the plunger is not stuck in the throttle body. It is a small box screwed next to the opening

A hairline crack in the exhaust manifold can cause similar symptoms.
@indridcold84332 жыл бұрын
@@CyberForest You are absolutely right. I found out when it got worse that when I pushed on the accelerator hard, I could hear the exhaust whistling through the crack. The center catalytic converter was also clogged. I put a used manifold on the Jeep and cut off the catalytic converter, replacing it with a pipe, and the old Jeep runs better than it has in many years. The exhaust gas test passes perfect, and my fuel economy went way up! It looks like the old RMS Stargazer has another two decades left in her.

Not bad, have a question!! Although i have a toggle switch for my fuel pump cause i have no power going back there when key is turned over.... do i need to fill the tank completely after installing new fuel pump? Im sure i put it all together right! Thanks!!!

Never use an Airtex fuel pump! Autozone stopped carrying them due to having constant failures. I'll never use another Airtex pump again. After 3 failures within two years NEVER again! Went with a Delphi fuel pump and has been working fine for years.

those jeeps are such rusty buckets !!
@indridcold84334 жыл бұрын
Those Jeeps are 19 to 25 years old. There is no way around worn parts and rust. My beloved RMS Stargazer has 415,000 miles and climbing. She is still as wonderful as she was the day I bought her back in late 1996.
