How to Install Ice Maker Box Whirlpool, Frigidaire Refrigerators

In This video we show you how to install an ice maker box for Frigidaire and Whirlpool refrigerators. How to install ice maker
In this particular video, as we are installing a Frigidaire ice maker brand new, or you can install an ice maker as a Frigidaire ice maker replacement for your old icemaker. This video also covers installing ice maker lines on refrigerators.
Steps before you install icemaker
Before you install your Frigidaire ice maker kit, unplug your Frigidaire refrigerator to avoid electric shock hazards. Safety should be first when you install an ice maker. Simply follow the directions that came with your icemaker when installing ice maker kit.
DIY ice maker box installation
Typical steps when installing ice maker kits is removing the freezer shelf, then pull the cap off the ice maker connector on the rear wall of the Frigidaire refrigerator. Next, install the leveling bracket on the bottom of the Frigidaire Ice maker, or the Whirlpool ice maker.
Installing ice maker in Whirlpool refrigerator is simple, taking about 1/2 hour. Adhere to plumbing codes when installing ice maker line to water lines. Follow the Frigidaire refrigerator manufacturer's ice maker installation instructions when installing ice maker line refrigerator. You'll be a pro when you install icemaker hoses to the water line according to the ice maker box install manual.
Now you can show your friends how to install an ice maker in a Frigidaire refrigerator.

Jeff, my ice machine suddenly doesn't produce ice, machine is working fine (spinning slowly) but there's no water coming. I didn't touch the water supply and it didnt leak (no water on the floor), I didn't touch water valve. What could be the problem ?

Lowes has the same icemaker, numbers and all for $ 49.99. The 10 ft line was $ 16.99, not cheap by any means but once and done I hope. I had to look on another install video since I didn't have a port to simply connect under the sink. The numbers on that piece ( and subsequent instal of same ) would have REALLY been helpful..

I installed the exact same unit. Had to use the whole kit since my fridge did not come with anything -reinstalled. Your video was incredibly helpful! I connected everything…no water flows to the ice tray. I tested water line, plenty of flow/pressure. Unplugged and reconnected the harness, and the connection to the valve on the back of the fridge…nothing. No water. Tried unplugging and plugging in the fridge. At a loss. Suggestions?

Only if your fridge has a water filter do you need to change it. The water filter filters water for both the ice maker and the water dispenser if you have one.

Thanks for the video. I just bought a fridge just like that but with no ice maker. However my old fridge is hooked up to a copper pipe where the water comes in for the broken ice maker in it. The pipe disappears into a hole in the floor into the crawl space. The delivery guys wouldn’t remove the old fridge unless I shut off the water to it. If I buy an ice maker and install it per your video can I still use the copper pipe? I have no idea where the shut off is either as it is not under the sink and the fridge is across the room from the sink. However I could shut off the main water to my house, install an ice maker, and turn the water back on. Is this feasible?

At 4:24, I think the leveling bracket upside down, maybe not if it works. The long slot faces the fridge wall as to allow up and down adjustment. Plus, there is an adjustment under the cover for how much water it takes to fill the ice cube tray. If you have low water pressure or high pressure, the cubes maybe small or ice cycles will form handing down due to over filled ice tray. Water pressure, tubing, saddle valve shut of (Don't use / Get Ball Valve) effects the filling time for opening the solenoid for water. Its controlled at the ice maker while the other two electrical terminals have higher current for tray heater.

Well, either way it worked, it looks like that long side of the bracket has an adjustable slot so that it may not matter which way you install it. Problem is the instructions that came with it were horrible.

@@jeffostroff You are correct, The bracket is no big deal and can easily be changed around if need. I agree with instructions on most product sold today. They tell you very little, nothing helpful or 36 pages long with only 3 in English. I know many products are sold world wide, but engineering does not get to talk to paper instruction people on other floor or different building or other side of the world. It is sad as time passes, seasoned talent leaves or retires, then a new group of newbies come in and make mistakes that where made 30 years ago. I saw this with car parts as I grew up in the age where we re-built everything. No boxed product other than parts. Had a guy buy a boxed carb and won't run. Took it apart and had hollow plastic float that sank because of hole. What, you saved 30 cents on a crucial part. Good video as we have high water pressure at our house and cover was frozen on, but pull off with any undue force. Adjusted the "Water Timer" as it turns the solenoid on / off and does not how full the tray is. Low, needs more, high pressure like mine, ice cycles hanging off ice tray at the back where water comes in. ASE Master Tech since 1978 / Retired. FYI, I watched another video, and the bracket was installed in the same way as this video. I believe he installed it correctly here, so the adjustment will have more flexibility. In the other video, the hose wasn't previously installed, the author used the insulation acquired from removing the plug and cutting an X in the paper cover in back to aid in adjusting the ice maker.

I bought a used fridge and realized the ice maker was not put in place right, the screw brackets are not in the right place and when hung on them there is a gap causing some water to drip not in the correct place. Can I make new holes for the screws and what about the old holes?? Or should I just see about finding a longer water pipe that pours the water in the ice maker

Great video, I installed new 11600 kit it was very easy and made two cycles of ice throught the 1st 12 hours. In the next 12 hours nothing, ice seems to be frozen in the tray but no cycling to dump the ice and repeat. Any suggestions.

Check the water line and make sure it is getting water. Also was there a previous icemaker? Maybe there is a problem with the water inlet valve not sending enough water to the icemaker. Other than that the mechanism should work. Maybe defrost and try again.

Try setting the freezer thermostat cooler. Dump the ice that is stuck together and put the bin back inside. If the ice is still clumping, add more food to your freezer three-quarters full to balance out the temperature. When the defrost cycle is activated, it passes heat through the freezer. Sometimes this heat causes the ice to melt and then refreeze, which can cause it to freeze together in clumps. If you add more food to the freezer, it helps deflect the warmth from the defrost cycle from directly hitting the ice and freezing up into a chunk.

Hi Jeff! I installed everything per your instructions and connected the wire harness inside the fridge as well to the water valve component. The ice maker is in the in position and plugged in correctly and water is connected and, tested. I have been expecting the ice maker to trigger the valve component to open so that water will flow to the ice maker but it has not. I am at my with end! Could you give any advice?

Ok, so we need to check 2 other things, are you sure the water supply to the ice make line behind the fridge is really getting water? Is it copper tubing back there that got kinked? My friend's house last week their copper tubing icemaker supply line kinked, then broke. Also try unplugging the fridge and plug it back in, maybe the control board got into a confused state, like out computers do from time to time. Once you plug it back in, you want to listen for a sound coming out of the water inlet valve at the bottom of the back of the fridge. You need to hear it click open to start receive in water to start making ice.

I am trying to use my old Kitchen aid ice maker system on my new Frigidaire top mount because I did not want to pay for a new one. I'm pretty sure they are compatible. All I need is the connection cord for the water intel valve, which I think is called a harness wiring. (Maybe OEM Part - Manufacturer #241510802). Am I on the right track? Make sure the ice maker lever is in the make ice mode, sometimes you can me close, but it needs to be all the way into position. Also make sure the icemaker is all the way plugged in. Do you have a water dispenser and is it working?

Very helpful video. However it seems that when you installed the braided supply line, it was putting a lot of stress on the fill valve. Should you secure the supply line above the valve to relieve the strain somehow?

No, there was no stress at all on the fill valve, that hose is very light, and as you saw I was holding it vertical with one hand and trying to tighten it with the other hand. Took a few tries because the inlet was set back too far close to the back wall of the fridge, making it hard to get the hose on there. Once in place, they have a hose loop several inches up that holds the hose in position and provides strain relief.

Jeff, After replacing my in-fridge water filter, the ice maker receives too much water. The tray fills too far. After weeks of clanging and banging and ice coming out in big clumps, the ice maker has failed and needs replacing. What controls the amount of water the ice maker receives, and how will I keep from having the same issue with a replacement ice maker? (The ice maker worked perfectly prior to replacing the water filter.)

The water inlet valve usually at the back exterior bottom of the fridge receives a control signal to turn on then off to allow water in, so maybe it got a bad signl from the controller baord.

Supposedly overnight you should see first cubes of ice. If you have nothing in 24 hours, time to start checking water inlet valve on fridge, and your wired connections if they are well connected.

Hi Jeff, my Frigidaire freezer looks just like yours but it doesn’t have the spout already in the freezer. It does have holes where it looks like it would go, but no actual spout or plug. Does this mean the freezer is not ice machine compatible?

Some units have what looks like a blank plate or plug over where the spout is that must be removed. I can't imagine any fridge not having the ability to be an ice maker, unless it's really old, or really cheap. If you see no such blank plate or cover up plug, then likely you have no ice maker capability. Is ther ea port on the back of the fridge, usually the bottom, to screw a 1/4" ice maker water supply on to the fridge? If so, then yes you do have ice maker capability.

@@jeffostroff really appreciate the response. I do see the blank circular plate over the spout hole and a plug over the other opening. On the back there is a cutaway cardboard panel with ice maker instructions and an area to run the water line (no water line actually attached), I was just a little thrown off by the inside. The female outlet inside the freezer is covered by a plate/plug that does not have the same "wedge the screw driver release" as in the video. I tried to apply a little pressure but didn't want to break anything. Do you think I should apply pressure and pop those plates off to see what is behind them, and do you think the parts in the top left of your freezer that are exposed in this video are behind these covers? The icemaker has a motor that cycles the ice ejector arms to eject the cubes into the ice bucket. If your thermostat or sensor on the icemaker tray reaches 15 degrees , the motor cycles to dump your ice cubes. At the end of the cycle, the icemaker module tells the water inlet valve to refill the tray with water. If the icemaker is defective, the ice maker won’t make or dispense ice. Make sure that the bail arm is in all the way down position, not half way. If the icemaker module has ejector blades, check to ensure that ice cubes are not stuck in the blades. Beyond that, might call the manufacturer for advice, they may send you a new one.

Hi Jeff, I watched your video to see how I can take apart my ice maker, which is no longer making ice. I have checked the back of the refrigerator and everything is hooked up correctly, even tested the water supply which is working. Any advice going forward?

Ice makers are so cheap, who knows what is failing. Do you know the ice maker is letting water in and that you can see the water setting in the tray cells? Is it making ice but just not pushing the cubes out afterwards? If it's doing neither, pull out the ice maker, and quickly see if anything is frozen and causing issues before it has a chance to melt and hide itself. See if anything looks wrong or might interfere with the mechanism to scoop out the cubes. I would let tit thaw out over night, put it back in and retry ice making and see if it works. If not, time to buy a new ice maker.

I usually see the instructions tell us that it can take 24 hours to produce the first ice if you don't see anything within two days something might be wrong like the water flow or the wiring wasn't connected correctly or that the wire switch wasn't in the on position or maybe the water was not turned back on that feeds the refrigerator

It looks like we are missing the bottom leveling bracket on the ice maker and ours is leaning exactly like yours was before you leveled it. I would recommend you find some sort of shim to stick between the ice maker and the side wall of the fridge to hold the ice maker level while you search for the part. If your's came without one, then I would call the parts department to get the part, or you can go to appliance parts pros and search their site for the part #, and buy it from them or also bounce it off amazon, see who has it cheaper. If you have Prime, amazon will have it in your hand in 48 hours if you choose a part that has Prime on it.

Some people mount them under the sink to intercept the water line from the shutoff valve, then the output of the filter feeds a water line to the ice maker. I prefer on my own fridge to buyer higher end models that that have the replaceable filters

Check the fridge reservoir if you have one, see if it filled with water. Who knows maybe the fridge will decide when to turn on the inlet valve.

a salesman told me that it's better to have an icemaker in the door as opposed to in the fridge body (inside). He said it had to do with warm air floating around inside of fridge can cause the ice to melt a little , whereas in the door it has dedicated vents to keep it colder. Ice has to be formed in an area that is 0 degrees. I have never seen my ice melt in the freezer!

Check the level of the tray, also make sure you correctly connected the back of the ice maker to the water port exactly as shown in the instructions. If no water enters the tray could be following reasons 1) water valve feeding ice maker supply line in the kitchen is turned off 2) Blockage in ice maker line leading to the fridge 3) Bad water inlet valve on the fridge, not turning on and allowing water to get into the fridge. 4) water is frozen inside the ice maker hoses inside the fridge. There is usually a plastic reservoir inside the fridge on the back wall of the main compartment, make sure it's not frozen. If it is, use a hair dryer to thaw it out. Is this fridge new? Do you have a water dispenser and does it work?

Installed an ice maker kit and water is automatically overflowing the ice maker once water is turned on.. almost like fill valve doesn’t stop water.. replaced fill valve and new one doesn’t stop water flow either.. any ideas?

I would recheck the wiring connections that you made, and also try unseating the ice maker, and re-install it, make sure you connected it correctly to the water tube. If it still happens, I would contact the ice make company and get a replacement.

You should only see ice. If you see water it means you did not level the icemaker like we showed in the video.

I have not. Make sure you have water flow ou of your water supply line tot he fridge, then make sure the plastics reservoir bottle inside the fridge is not frozen. IF so, use a hair dryer for 5 minutes to thaw it out.

The most difficult part is installing line from the main water source to the fridge. That was glossed over. The path for me would be from fridge-past the stove-past the cabinet-to the sink. I don't see how I can do this.

I would think maybe there is too much water collecting on it so the cubes are slightly big. Could be another part, I would try AppliancesParts Pros, enter your model number icemaker and they have videos for many problems. that's where I go for lots of videos on which part might be broken on appliances

I would first see where is the water coming from? Is it passing through an undersink filter system? IF so try changing the filter. If that does not work or you don't have a filter, you may need one. But I would check the hose leading tot he sink and if it is old, might look a t buying new

The fridge usually has one built in, you most people will install an inline filter under the kitchen sink that feeds the ice maker line.

Make sure all electrical connections are correct, make sure the connector is plugged all the way ton the connector on the back inside wall of the fridge. Make sure the on/off bracket switch on the ice maker is all the way down to turn it one and enable ice making. Make sure water supply tot he fridge is on.

This plug caught fire on my mom's fridge. There was never an ice maker attached to it. The wire to the plug shorted together.

Not a science but, and the end you installed the water supply line crooked so it will develop a leak as soon as you open the water thru the feeding line.
