Thanks for the quick answer! I'm taking notes. I figure I'll want to do these sorta things in a few years when I'm able to take off. Safe travels!!

No worries at all, a lot of this we are kind of figuring out as we go along. So feel free to ask any questions along the way, and hopefully it can help us all learn something new :)

Thanks for your video and time! I'm planning to do something similar, but only the dog house. I thought the insulation needs to go on the inside of the dog house (engine side). It's obvious that doing only the dog house will give me less sound reduction than doing the whole floor. Custom making a bigger dog house over the existing is an awesome idea. Thank you for all your great ideas! I think I should reconsider my plans and go a little bigger like you did!

This video was GREAT... I could hear you so clearly without background music. You have no idea how good that is..... most background music makes it hard to hear what you're saying. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video... Question: I have looked everywhere on KZbin, to find out "How To" take the old carpet off the "Doghouse" (engine cover). Do you have a solution for that too? Thank you for your help.
@Mountainmodernlife5 жыл бұрын
Thank you much @Judi Christopher to be honest, I don't think there is a easy way to remove the carpet as it'll take a decent about of elbow grease and you'll need to make sure and remove any left over carpet staples. If you want to check out this post - mountainmodernlife.com/rv-engine-insulation/ - we do go into a little bit of info on getting it cleaned up. Anyway, I hope that helps :)

Hi! Have you had any issues with this stuff getting warm and the adhesive melting or starting to smell? I’ve read that elsewhere and I’m worried about that happening if I put it on my floor or the underside of the doghouse.
@cruzincondo33957 жыл бұрын
Mineral wool with foil backing under the dog house works fine reducing noise & heat up to 1200 degrees.

Hey Cruzin Condo, thank you much for the suggestion! I hadn't heard of mineral wool until your comment, thanks again. I love learning of new approaches :)

Thank You for this information. I found a source for this, but doesn't tell me how to adhere it. Is it self adhesive like the insulation was put down in this video?
@BFordy95 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the video - thank you. Did you decide what you’re going to put on the underside of the doghouse? I removed the fiberglass doghouse from our RV and built a new wooden doghouse that allows for a flat surface. Given the needed clearance I couldn’t build over the existing house. That said, I’m looking for the best heat shield option to go under my wooden doghouse. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Any risk you see to just using a wooden house?
@Mountainmodernlife5 жыл бұрын
Hey @BFordy9 we didn't actually put anything directly under the wooden section we built. Though that fatmat rattletrap extreme we put on the floor and the existing doghouse seems to be working really well. I can't think of a risk that would exist from just the wooden doghouse, though when we created ours, our main concern was with our warranty. If we removed the old one completely it would have voided it, which looking back on it, it didn't matter because it's expired now and we never used it haha :)

I’m about to do this in my rv. Curious, if you only insulate the driving area, how do you make the transition to the rest of the flooring? Isn’t there a height gap? Great video. Thanks
@Mountainmodernlife5 жыл бұрын
Hey @CharChar sorry for the delayed response, we actually found that the insulation we put down didn't create enough of a height difference to make and impact. We were able to lay the flooring right from the insulation to the underlayment without much raise at all and it's been holding up great for the last almost 3 years :) hope that helps

What kinda of floor did you put down? Is there a video on that?
@Mountainmodernlife8 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul! We used the NuCore Scrapped Ashen Oak flooring, it is exclusive to Floor & Decor. If you check out this link we talk about how we installed the flooring in our slide out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6vLmn1qobV4rJI This second link is to our post on the website, it goes into more depth on how we installed the flooring throughout the RV: mountainmodernlife.com/how-to-replace-rv-flooring/ I hope these links help, and please feel free to ask any other questions you may have! Best of luck on your project :)

Thanks how is it holding up?
@Mountainmodernlife8 жыл бұрын
It's holding up really really well! We haven't noticed any scratches even though we've been in it for 3 months and we finished 3/4's of our renovation with the flooring already down as well. We also had a small leak come in through our hallway windows which got the floor all wet, but it seems to have kept the water out and was an easy wipe up. Couldn't bee happier.

Hi! New sub here! I was wondering, and it maybe just the camera angle, but I was wondering why you didn't.cover that small section directly above the engine cover. It looks to be only about an inch or two high, but still, wouldn't leaving that uncovered defeat the entire purpose of insulating? Just wondering. Safe travels!!
@Mountainmodernlife8 жыл бұрын
Hey there, thanks for subscribing, and good eye in the video! We had gotten completely done with what you see in the video and were putting the new custom doghouse in place when I noticed the same spot. We ended up pulling the doghouse back out and placing a small strip across that section, because it's like you said, that one spot being uncovered could make the whole thing pointless.

Hi: You probably answered this somewhere but, I'm wondering difference in noise before and after.
@Mountainmodernlife8 жыл бұрын
Hey John, we have noticed a big difference in the amount of noise we hear in the front of the RV. If we are going up a big hill you can still hear the engine pretty good but it is much better (concerns with a front gas engine I guess). Along with the insulation we also added a custom doghouse cover and new flooring which could also be helping to cancel out some of the noise. Bottom line is that we have noticed a great improvement to the heat and noise levels while driving our rig. I hope this helps :)

Where did you get it from? How much was it?
@Mountainmodernlife7 жыл бұрын
Hey +Waynes Grid we got it from Amazon (here is our affiliate link to the product amzn.to/2y35nH2 ) I believe it's somewhere around 60 dollars for 25 square feet. If you want to check out more information on how we did it and what we used you can check out our post here - mountainmodernlife.com/rv-engine-insulation/ I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions. best wishes, Eric

Your research notwithstanding, it seems like putting a band-aid on a broken leg. The floor shouldn't need heat treatment? For sound you might look into a product that used to be used in construction to mitigate sound, that being a rubber mat?
@Mountainmodernlife4 жыл бұрын
Hey @Jack Riley so far it's actually worked pretty well for both sound and heat, though I'd say the sound was the worse of the two. I do think a rubber mat would be a good option though. Thanks for the tip!

How much noise reduction did you get with that insulation?
@Mountainmodernlife8 жыл бұрын
Hey Dan! I've noticed a major decrease in the noise while driving down the road, and heat hasn't been a problem at all either. So I can say that I'm completely satisfied with the noise and heat reduction. I think it's important to note that we also added a custom dog house (engine cover) to the front of our rig. So while the insulation has contributed to the noise reduction I think the addition of a custom dog house has helped as well. I have no way of knowing which aspect helps out the most but I know the noise has been lower a lot.
@danfarrell89588 жыл бұрын
Where did you get the dog house and would it work with any class A or is it a special application?
@Mountainmodernlife8 жыл бұрын
Hey Dan! We actually built a custom doghouse cover that rests right on top of the original engine cover. You can check out this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKnOlZWXjN-kh9k Also if you want a bit more information we wrote a post that has a bit more detail, you can check that out at the link below: mountainmodernlife.com/custom-rv-doghouse-cover/ I believe it should work for most Class As that have the smaller engine cover in the front. If you do decide to take this route though make sure to measure close to the chairs. The reason being is you want to make sure they're still able to swivel. I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions. Best wishes, Eric
