Is removing the valance absolutely necessary?

Followed every step of the way. Triple checked to see that it’s nice and tightened. Problem is maybe after driving 100 miles or so, the words, “Check engine air filter system” appeared. Not necessarily a check engine light because I can clear it out from the dashboard. Does this mean I need a tune?

You just need to disable the filter life setting.

Why do we have to take off the negative battery terminal?

JJ, We do this to reduce the chance of electronic components shorting.

I haven't gotten a clear answer on K&N's but I know if you buy the one through GM is does require a remap and they include that in the price
