All I have coming out of the switch site is one black wire and one white wire. Am I screwed? Is there a workaround?
@JustADad3 жыл бұрын
I don't think there is a work around. the white wire you have it probably going to the light as a hot wire when you turn on the switch. You have to have a Neutral that runs all the way back to your panel. You can find a neutral (white wire) in a plug. you could extend it up to your switch. Unfortunately when there is only one black and one white wire in your box you can not use this. You have to find a neutral in a box somewhere close and extend it up the switch.

what about a combination switch , can i use one Kasa for both switches ?
@JustADad3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. This is a single pole switch and not a 3 way switch. It can only be used in places that have one switch that is controlling the light. You might be thinking of a 3 way switch that is used when you want 2 switches located in different places to control the same light. Kasa sells a smart 3 way switch on amazon at this link amzn.to/326lYry

what kind of recessed lights are those? I’m thinking about buying led recessed lighting but I don’t want them to buzz with the dimmer.
@JustADad3 жыл бұрын
I got them from Amazon, there are a bunch that look like these. They are really flat LEDs and they have an external box that powers the light. There is a small cord that runs to the light from the box, and you put your house wiring inside the box. I love them and they look really good put off lots of light. This is a link but it says they are unavailable right now but you can see what they look like and maybe get some that look the same. When you put the breaker back in, it will have power on it. make sure you are clear and the wires don't touch anything. and you can check it with a voltage tester.

and If in the box, there is no Neutral wires???
@JustADad2 жыл бұрын
then you can not use it, you will have to find a neutral wire close by and run one to the box

You put the wire on wrong side of the screws, always put on side of screw so when your tightening screws the wire gets pulled around screw

If I turn the light off on full bright is there a way I can turn it back on on dim?
@JustADad3 жыл бұрын
in the Kasa App when you select your dimmer there is a menu device settings. you can choose what happens when you long press the switch or double tap the switch. you can select one of these to dim the light when you do it. Page 8 of your user manual for the switch.

Beware of TP-Link products. If the product fails within the warranty period you will be required to pay for shipping the defective item to them before they will send a replacement.
@JustADad3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the update!! and Sharing!!
@61JWolf3 жыл бұрын
@@JustADad You're welcome. The requirement to pay for shipping the defective product does not sit well with me. When I checked to see if other people were as bothered by this practice as much as I was, I came across one instance where the individual had purchased a three pack of Kasa smart light switches and one failed. In addition to having to pay for shipping the defective product to them, TP-Link requested that he uninstall the other two switches and ship them along with the one not working. Because of the price point and convenience I switched from Shelly and Sonoff to TP-Link and installed a few of their smart devices in my house. Suffice to say that the TP-Link brand is no long a consideration for me. I hope others will think twice about whether they want to contend with the unreasonable way that TP-Link chooses to back up their product and warranty.
