AlexElectronics I am having trouble with sound and I don’t see a real answer here.. in particular, I have trouble with the JumpStart First Grade CD game I installed .. my kids always loved that classic learning game and I was fortunate to have found the classic version on Amazon .. was so happy to think I could run it on my old 2006 iMac but now we have only sound for parts of the disc and much of the sound is missing. What in the world can I do now? Any help is greatly appreciated.

you can use it on sierra by copying sheep shaver to your desktop then deleting the original sheep shaver then putting the copied one from your desktop back in the folder

Alex - I'm sending a "virtual hug" your way. I use Timeslips as my law office billing software but it only runs on System 9. No newer generation billing software works for me as well as TimeSlips. I've got an old Power PC G4, which is running OS 10.3.9, that allows me to run TimeSlips in "Classic System 9" mode. The G4 and its associated Apple Laserwriter 12/64 PS are both on their last legs. I live in fear that one or the other will die of old age. You have shown me a path to tranquility. Than you so much! I just hope that SheepShaver will allow me to use a newer generation printer to print out my Timeslips reports.

Those who are having trouble with Mac OS Sierra, as noted in the other comments, copying the Sheep Shaver application to the desktop, then deleting the original sheep shaver app, then dragging the copied sheep shaver app back into the original folder DID work for me as well. :)

It totally works on High Sierra, when you unzip the Sheepshaver folder, copy the App into the desktop, delete the App on the folder, and then drag the App from the desktop back to the folder. Oh and the first time Mac OS 9 boots the Unix folder won’t be recognized but then it works just well. I'm using v10.13.4 - 2018

Get a .iso file of the game you want to install and follow the same instructions he gave at 7:58. Should boot right up next time you open SheepShaver.

Works great on Siera. Copy the SheepShaver app to the desktop. Then delete the App from the folder. Then drag the app from the desktop back into the folder. Bam... 10.12.6

A lot of people have been asking me to make the sound tutorial that I promised at the end of the video. I tried to make the video a few months ago, but the sound mysteriously started working when I launched SheepShaver. Now that the problem is resolved on my installation of Mac OS 9, I have no way to make the video anymore since I cannot fix the sound when it is already working fine. Sorry!

Hey Alex ... Thanks for the tutorial, finally I was able to get OS9 up and running (first Mac was a G3 and then G4), as the last person said "Um" ... It's pretty hard to stop saying that especially if you're thinking ahead of yourself already ... But hey! Finally got OS 9 up and running (thanks to yourself) and Cubase SX installed and talking to all my MIDI devices ... Thanks totally! Respect from a Londoner in Frankfurt Germany ... Maybe for your next webisode you should probably slow down the speech a bit, mainly because I kept on hitting pause at most points ... I'm also pretty amazed that someone of your age is delving deep in to the history of Mac OS, which is simply amazing!! Thx very much. Installed on High Sierra 10.13.1, MacBook Pro (Late 2013). Worked perfect. The copy/delete/paste method is necessary (or instead of renaming the downloaded SheepShaver folder, create a new one on your desktop, named SheepShaver and copy all the files into this one). Needed the MacOS 9 to translate old MiniCad files into the new format of VectorWorks (file translator of VectorWorks). Only thing I can see, is that the cursor has a pixelled rectangle on his arrow point (probably a graphics issue).

Hi Alex, When it came to formatting the disk you used Was OS standard format rather than the Extended format which was usually recommended for Mac OS8 and above. Is their any particular reason why you used the old HD format rather than the newer one. ? We we told to use the new extended format.

Cool video! By the way, it is Mac OS 'Ten', not Mac OS 'Ex'. Now of course called macOS. After you installed Mac OS 9 from the CD ISO, you forgot to run the Mac OS 9.0.4 update that is included on that ISO image. So after you quit the main installer, you need to run the updater to update from 9.0 to 9.0.4. Regarding the sound issue, go to the Sound control panel and choose Built-In for sound output. Then it will work. To set up Internet, which I found in another tutorial video, you need to set SheepShaver's Ethernet Interface setting under the Misc preference to 'slirp'. Then in OS 9, you can turn on AppleTalk in the Chooser, then select Ethernet in the AppleTalk control panel, and select Ethernet in the TCP/IP control panel. SheepShaver is slow because your host Mac must be using a traditional hard drive, not an SSD. But great job! Fun to run OS 9 on an Intel Mac. I also have a QuickSilver 2002 Dual 1GHz G4 Mac and a Power Mac G5 (Dual G5) for running native PowerPC stuff.

From what I read, you have to be running OS 9 - it was never developed for OS 8. However, it should RUN almost any system 7, 8, and 9 application, i.e., Word 6 for Macintosh, and so on.

you can press enter when you marked a file to rename it you only have to "Get Info" if you want to change the suffix instead of the name or both. Still nice Video

I've installed it using High Sierra and if your audio is muted just like I had, go to the apple icon top left corner and under 'control panels', select 'sound'. Your audio will be set instantly.

I wasn't able to get Mac OS 9.0.4 with a US mirror from the WinWorld Website, but i was able to get Mac OS 9.0 with a US mirror from another website. Besides that this video was very helpful with setup and it runs well. Running SheepShaver Mac OS 9.0 on a white Mid 2010 Unibody Macbook 13 inch running Mac OS X 10.11.6 (El Capitan)

Edwin J I got it at macintoshrepository.org. You will have to create an account to download the ISO, but has a US mirror and it runs well.

The error that popped up for you at 10:56 that asks you to initialize a disc never appeared for me. The OS just loaded in and the only two drives I have on the desktop are Unix and the built-in OS 9 disc

You have to rename it to vMac.ROM

You're not supposed to use "unix" for mac os 9 because that is your real hard drive
