How to install MAME and Neo-geo CD on the Wii

This NeoCD-Wii works, looks and performs better than genuine NeoGeo Arcades that I remember from being a child and spending time in arcade saloons playing samurai Shodown and Metal Slug. And all thanks to you and this guide! thank you! Oh and there are "plug&play" available rom sets ready to go, just put them into the right folder. No need to convert anything.

Help! I can't get sdlMAME-wii to recognize the left joystick of the Gamecube controller in any games. I looked in the 'Configure General Input' option, but won't recognize the left joystick when I try to set the input. Any ideas?

Have you tried a different controller? Edit: is it a third party controller?

Go into the controller options, select player two, put your GameCube controller in the second port and see if it works that way

Is there any real advantage to using Neo geo CD over the ROM versions? Because my understanding is that SNK only released the CD version to make the games more affordable, and they don't include any real enhancements, unlike TurbographX 16, which incorperates CD sound. The only potential benefit that I can think of is that there are a few games that exceed the Wii's memory capacity, and so might only be playable in the CD format. *edit* It looks like some games did have improved sound.

@@BelowAverageGaming @hhtien1408 He could have used Retroarch, the important thing to understand is the Wii distribution of Retroarch uses MAME 2000 this is really MAME 0.37b5, in the video you used MAMEWii which is really MAME 0.134u3, this is the latest version of MAME that anyone has gotten to work on the Wii. The problem is that MAME 0.134u3 is soooo massive that when Toadking made the emulator he left out large pieces of it, which is why Sonic would not play. Any game that was not implemented will not turn green. You can get other games to work, by using he Retroarch MAME 2000 or Final Burn Alpha. There are also MAME 2003 (MAME 0.78) cores for Retroarch on GBATemp that are unoffficial.

I read that MAME is the emulator to use to play the old Nintendo Game & Watch games. Have you tried any of those and if so, any luck? I'm looking to try to play the Zelda game if that's possible. Thanks.

@@BelowAverageGaming There's a unique Zelda game (simply called "Zelda") for the Game & Watch system. I don't know if you're familiar with the G&W, it's a 4-bit handheld that predates the NES by a few years (though this particular game was released in '89), supposedly the predecessor for the Game Boy. I've read conflicting comments about its compatibility with Mame. Apparently these games for this system are quite difficult to extract. I didn't know if you'd had any experience with the G&W so I figured I'd ask about it. I'd like to try out this game but they're ridiculously expensive on ebay. Thanks.

@@BelowAverageGaming The one from Target is a Zelda 35th anniversary commemorative edition that has 3 Zelda games on it that's being released in a few weeks, I believe. The one I'm referring to is from 1989. It was the second-to-last release in that Game & Watch line. I usually set my quality to best, 320 kbps. If you're having issues with that it could be the game you're using, maybe try another one to double check if it works

I also own two classic controllers which I usually use to play emulated games on my wii. I watched your video on how to install all wii emulators in about april of last year and when I installed MAME then, it worked perfectly fine.
