The spray you used in the manifolds. Would that work on the headers or do you think it would burn off being that headers get hotter.

I have a problem finding headers my exhaust ports are square and when I go to look for headers the ones that fit my car are circular. Am I able to put those on my car even though the ports don't match?

It depends on the heads and the headers but mostly the gaskets. You need to use a good FelPro header gasket. As long as it seals it will work fine. Usually the gaskets that come with headers are crap. You can look around on Summit Racing and see what they have and talk to them or talk to Fel Pro. Summit is good at taking returns. You just need to check the gasket against the head ports and against the header ports before you install them. They don't need to be the same shape just seal the header and head.

I would not use any spray on headers. They are hotter and smoother. If you like the headers you have the best thing to do is send them out and get them ceramic (jet hot) coated. There are more companies that do that now. The ceramic coating is the best for headers unless you buy polished stainless steel headers to start with. Summit has some cheap stainless headers.

i got a problem, with the original manifold no problem, now i put headers and the oxygen sensor position changed from closer the engine to on the top of the pipes on the new headers, now every so often it stalls, and erractic rpms, any thoughts on how to do a modification to fix this?

Martin Corleone Step one in the Chevy dealer repair manual is always "Verify the problem." Check the codes. Do what you can to increase the odds that the O2 is the problem. If the sensors are OK then it may be running lean (or rich) because of the increased air flow and sensor position. Try running a bottle of GOOD fuel injector through the tank. There could be other problems that were slight before the exhaust swap. If all the parts, injectors and computer are good then you may need to take it to a shop that can program the ECM with the new exhaust set up.

+SanDiegoHotRod can you put headers on a engine that is not v8???
@SanDiegoHotRod9 жыл бұрын
+Andy Elkins Absolutely. There are many header manufacturers just make sure you get the correct headers. I prefer stainless or ceramic coated headers.

SanDiegoHotRod would you still be able to put 2 pipes on it
@SanDiegoHotRod9 жыл бұрын
+Andy Elkins Depending on the car you should be able to run dual exhaust on a V6. It is still a good idea to have a crossover pipe on any dual exhaust system. You only need one header and muffler on a 4 cyl (unless it is a flat 4 VW/Porsche engine).

I'm going from a stock 305 with manifolds to a 400 sbc with headers, will I need exhaust work to get the headers on since the piping for the manifolds comes up to the side of the block
@SanDiegoHotRod7 жыл бұрын
You do not need to do anything to the heads. You will need to cut the end of the exhaust pipes near the engine and weld on the header flange that should come with the new set of headers.
