HOW TO INSTALL MANUAL LOCKING HUBS IN A 2004 MITSUBISHI CHALLENGER PA2
After being tired of the little niggling 4wd light issues common in my 2004 Mitsubishi Challenger PA2 I was advised by several mechanics to swap the auto hubs for manual locking hubs. I was advised by someone with experience in this fields to get Aisin brand hubs to suit an ME, MJ, MK and ML model Tritons. This is how I did this job and yes I forgot to put a little shim back in. I went out and tested it and it all works fine so far.

Great video convinced me do the same to my challenger as i cannot find anyone willing fix my flashing four wheel drive light and unreliable vacuum system

Go for it mate the hubs are easy. The flashing light is usually a solenoid under the airbox. I have bought an auto lokka for my front diff. I now have to make up a metal plate to hold the diff pin out which keeps the diff engaged. hen I can remove the vacuum system from the car. I will make a video of it I just don't know when.

My next trick is bigger front brakes. I'm going to replace the wheel bearings at the same time and check ball joints etc

@@FlatBrokeAdventures I did see that the ball joint on the steering nuckel was buggerd, I do suggest steel brayded brake hoses and slotted rotors

@@joshuaswart4917 the rotors aren't slotted unfortunately but the are bigger and came with brand new calipers and mounting brackets. I'll get bearings this week and was thinking about braided lines. Thanks for the tip on the steering knuckle.

Hi I’ve recently bought myself a Mitsubishi Challenger, can i ask you what the initial problem you had with the 4wd? The problem inget if i select Neutral on the automatic gearbox when stationary, then select ether 4H or 4L on the 4wd lever, the green light on the dash comes on and flashes, does not turn to a solid green light, and the 4wd doesnt seem to engage… does replacing the hubs to manual hubs fix this problem? Thanks!

No the flashing light problem is a solenoid. It's usually the solenoid under the airbox. I put these in because I was told they are stronger plus I want to remove the vacuum system to eliminate the bad/unreliable solenoids. I have since bought an auto lokka for the front diff and will make a video installing it. I just need to get some time and more parts. Thanks for commenting and I hope you enjoy your Challenger.

Nice video. I have a question about how to smoothen the free wheeling hub making it easy to turn manually
@FlatBrokeAdventures
@FlatBrokeAdventures Жыл бұрын
Good question, they are tight aren't they. I don't know maybe they need to be tight to stop them from moving while you drive or go from forward to reverse etc. It would be nice if they were easier. Thanks for watching.

Hi mate thanks for the video -- I've just installed same free wheel hub on my 2005 Triton -- so far just did the one side and then wanted to check some videos to confirm whether or not I did something wrong... as I've got similarish issue to what you described on the first one. In my case though it'll be on lock and then only turn half way between lock and free... however it does seem to function properly when testing in either.... should I just take it off again and try and get it on properly so the hub rotates all the way from lock to free?

Hi mate. No worries I'm glad it was able to help you. Yes I would take it off again and fix it so you get full movement.

May I ask how much does that hub cost? seems easy to install with DIY.... hear that it reduce some oil consumption if installed ? do you have the number of difference? .... Thanks for the video..... asked by a challenger 2002 owner :)

Difference is minimal but it would help. I think they cost me about $280 - $300 Australian off ebay.

@@ccyeh0901 should be less wear on front diff parts. And if you ever need low range 2wd then you now have it. You can put in 4low and leave the hubs in free spinning. Thanks for watching and commenting on the videos it's greatly appreciated
