Thanks yet again! I just installed my very FIRST METAL ROOF on a 1-car+ garage. The roof was only a 20'x10'x 2 sides. What threw me for a loop is the style of that gable flashing. My order included drip flashing and gable flashing not really knowing why the gable flashing was made in such an odd shape - at first look. I didn't know the difference.... in what way was the gable flashing installed? UNTIL I saw this video, I didn't know and felt like a fool! Keep in mind that I've been roofing (shingles) for 50 years and suddenly I felt stupid. I have YOU to thank for setting things straight. The roof is now done and looks great!

Thank you so much for these videos. They’ve been instrumental. I have one question about the gable rake flashing location landing incorrectly, if you’re still monitoring this channel. I work across 75 feet of house and get to the other side only to find out the gable rake flashing is landing directly on top of the high ridge in the roof panel. What should be done in this instance? Thanks for your time.

Oooo, new content, can’t wait! Question, what’s preferable on the gable end, drip edge under roof panel or the overtop trim with the butyl tape method. Also, unheated detached garage, roof ridge vent needed or unnecessary? Thank you,
@RoofingIntelligence Жыл бұрын
I almost always go for the drip edge method. Either works but the drip edge runs into fewer problems. I'd always install a ridge vent.

@@RoofingIntelligence These videos are super helpful, thanks for posting them. I'd rather use the drop edge than the gable end, for appearance, but I was wondering about protection against wind and uplift. Compared to a drip edge, would the gable end help keep the roof in place in strong wind? Project is a single slope carport, open (no walls) on ~2 sides).

Nobody else noticed the clip at 1:56 installing the drip edge where it was a backwards clip and he was unhammering in the nail?!

Thanks for your video.How would you tie in to an existing shingle roof above a metal with a hip. Im doing a small 4 by 15 ft area roof below a typical hip roof thats shingled. Small roof currently has rolled roofing needs replacing but doesnt leak.. Can I go right on top of it also? Would I use flashing and BlackJack 57 or suitable compound to seal the joint under the asphalt shingles?.... Any help would be appreciated.....Glenn

Check out my video on transitions for metal roofs. You'll need to take up a few row of shingles to get the metal roll flashing underneath the shingles. Then, install new shingles on top of the roll of transition flashing.

QUESTION: HOW DO INSTALLERS CAP OFF THE RIDGE HOES AT THE EAVES? THE RIDGE TUNNELS CAN ALLOW SMALL RODENTS AND BUGS A HOME FOR TIMES AND POSSIBLE AVENUE INTO THE ATTIC AT THE PEAK.
@RoofingIntelligence3 ай бұрын
Watch the video on installing ridge caps. You can put some screws in the folded down edges of the ridge cap if needed.

In Canada we use gable fascia trim where the gable fascia goes up behind that trim. Do you need to remove the fascia gable trim before installing the roofing trim? Or it better to use a different kind of roofing trim?

Is it OK the leave the old shingle on the roof or should u strip the roof and start all over??..I see guys always leave the old shingle on the roof
@danielthorne65019 күн бұрын
Is it ok, probably. Is it always better to remove the extra weight, yes.

The store that sold me my gable edge trim piece told me to put a screw into the fascia board as well as on top of the roof. Does that sound right to you?
@RoofingIntelligence7 ай бұрын
That works. I don't particularly like seeing the screws in the side but that will certainly help hold the piece on better - especially if you are in a high wind area.

Does the gable edge flasging need to sit on a ridge at the edge? Or does it need to be screwed into the flashing or shimmed up somehow on course ending sides where there isnt a ridge at the edge of the roof?

Doing this over a ridge vent, do I have to install a roof vent ?

Some people say that the screws on metal roofing will always back out after several years. Is that true?
@RoofingIntelligence11 ай бұрын
If the roof is installed properly, the screws can last for many years.

If you use the drip edge on the gable end, does the metal overhang some or is it flush with the edge?
@michaelkenyon7089 Жыл бұрын
I have the same question. Mine are installed flush and all my facia boards are rotting out.
@ju20674 ай бұрын
Seems to me sealing the edge is unnecessary as the water would have to seep under the drip edge AND over the hip of the roof edge?

I am doing my barn roof 48’ tall, 60’ wide. Can I overlap panels vertically? How?
@RoofingIntelligence6 ай бұрын
You can overlap the panels vertically. The longest panel I'd recommend ordering would be 25'. That should work well for you and have a solid 2' overlap. Make sure NOT to screw the panels right near the edge of the overlap. Keep the screws min. 6" from the edge of the top panel and it wouldn't hurt to put some sealant in between the panels as you lay them down. Good luck!

Hi, could really use some help with my metal roof! My Drip edge (Drip Eave) is installed flush with the metal roof edge and the water is riding the drip edge down onto my facia boards rotting them out and bypassing the gutter. Is this a correct installation?? I would imagine there should be some overhang. I'm going to do like you said and flash the drip into the gutter but will have to replace all my facia boards first :( Thanks for the info and if anyone knows, please share!

Shouldn't be tight to facia, 1/8" off

i have flat roof can i install the metal roof ?
@RoofingIntelligence Жыл бұрын
You can use metal in low-pitch situations but be careful. If there are numerous penetrations, skylights, or valleys, for example, I would probably consider a different option.
