How to install mosaic tile on a ceiling,

Hi Sal, I use 1/8 inch wedi board. I attach tile to board and then install the larger pieces to the celing.

That would work if he wasn’t adapting to drywall on the ceiling where he is putting the bullnose. But he needs to put it on the same plain of substrate to ensure the tiles are the same level when he applies the bullnose

@@feeblewrk5788he could just apply the bullnose onto the same board. The issue is the 1/8”gap that now exist between ceiling drywall and the newly installed tile.

What do you do with building out the drywall to make the transition cleaner?

What 1/8 gap, he used 1/2 backer above the shower and butted it up against the drywall…. He installed the bullnose over the seem between drywall and the backboard so he didn’t have to mud the seem with drywall mud… less work and better result.

Sal, I saw you use a sponge to clean up the ceiling bullnose. I was guessing it was squeeze out. What other tools do you use to get the fresh thinset out of the grout lines if that happens? Mike

My crew and I use lots of different tools. Sponges, toothbrushes, nail brushes from your nearest auto parts store (the brissels are tough) and a utility knife that extends the blade. 📌Pro tip, we wait about 10-15mins once installed and go back with a blade…easy to take off.

1️⃣Templates help a lot. 2️⃣Be mindful of your edging how it will match up with the edging coming up from the walls. 3️⃣thinset I recommend is Ardex X77 (personal fave).4️⃣ Theres lots of good systems around that help with jacking it up (2x4s, pole jacks, etc) too help with keeping it in place while the thinset cures. 5️⃣100% coverage always
