I installed my OEM subwoofer along with my Android tablet today. Here is a step-by-step guide to how to install a Subaru OEM subwoofer into your Legacy GT. Subwoofer kit should come with: -Subwoofer -T-harness -Mounting bracket

I thought I was the only one that installed car audio components in my socks. Good job!

Gotta say thanks for this. I'm installing mine right now and had an idea of how to run the wiring, but you gave me the second opinion I needed.

Do you have a link of the sub woofer you bought?

Do you know if this install would also apply to a 2005 Impreza Outback Sport?

Ryan, thank you for getting back to me in your previous video. The DT2S function was in fact built into the CM13 ROM. Question about this video, how did you get the Subaru Splash screen to work when you shut your car off? Is that part of ElementalX kernel or something else (like Tasker?)? I do not remember seeing you cover it in your video. Thanks.
@RPGarage8 жыл бұрын
No problem . I wrote up a little event in tasker to do it. It's a short video file I found online somewhere and the event is along the lines of "state: power not connected, task: shutdown" "shutdown" is a task that says open the video file, wait 7 seconds for it to play, kill some apps, then lock the screen.

That's Awesome. Any chance you still have the short video file that you could upload to a Dropbox account or something for sharing? I greatly appreciate your tutorials as they have been most helpful in my Nexus 7 Project.

wow i was thinking of replacing the head unit on my recently purchased 2008 outback and i was thinking i might have to spend big $ ordering a new colsole piece that will fit a double din unit from japan but i wasnt aware that you could also possibly do it by ordering a new console piece that sits above the old unit on the dash ? could you tell me the part number for that conversion piece or possibly provide link to where i may be able to purchase one ?

Hey. I recently installed one of these subs in a Honda Fit. I’m not getting that bass that i was expecting. I am wondering if my radio has anything to do with that. Do you have any recommendations?

What's the headset up top? Is that the navigation that comes with some packages, or it is a custom install of something?

I've got an '05 Legacy GT Limited with the factory subwoofers already installed under the seats. Do you know any aftermarket ones that would fit and any guides that show how to replace it?
@RPGarage4 жыл бұрын
So the factory one is able to tap into power/ground stereo inputs etc from the factory stereo which simplifies the wiring significantly. Aftermarket subs usually have to be powered directly from the battery. There are some underseat aftermarket subs but if you're upping the power the stereo might not be able to keep up. Likely there's going to be a lot more wiring involved as you'd need to go directly to the battery. If the underseat sub doesn't have an integrated amp you'll have to wire that as well.

Why does the T harness replace what was already there? What about all the other speakers?
@BraydenBachlott6 жыл бұрын
The newer legacy's come stock with a subwoofer I think. My brand new 2018 Legacy Sport came with one.

Does this install make it so that you can't use your hazard lights? I guess I need a bit more clarification on the plug and play. What cord from the sub plugs into the back of the radio?
@roboticunclephil3 жыл бұрын
The harness is like an extension cord, it fits in between the chain of harnesses already in the back of the radio. You can daisy chain multiple of these subs with no other equipment / wires needed if you wanted

I have a '05 Legacy GT wagon with the stock HU from an '08. I recently came across the cargo subwoof from an '09 Outback Limited. Any idea if I can make it work with the '08 HU? Where did you get the T-harness to install yours?
@RPGarage3 жыл бұрын
Hey Tony, You'll have to take a look at the cargo subwoofer and see if it has an internal amplifier or not. The stock underseat subwoofer is actually a powered sub which is essentially the subwoofer and amp together. If the 09 sub is like that then the install should be similar. If it is just a speaker on its own then you'd need some type of external amplifier for it which would take lot more wiring. The T-harness on the stock sub essentially just takes power/ground and some speaker inputs and sends them to the sub then back to the rest of the speakers. You can build your own but it's better to just buy a factory sub that has the harness with it.

@musicman79826 жыл бұрын
What I'm struggling with is the "GAIN" and "VOLUME" knobs. Does anyone have any suggestions as to settings? I seem to have "holes" in the bass.
@cade_445 жыл бұрын
Music Man from what I know, “holes” in your bass could be related to the hpf or lpf (high or low pass frequencies) settings in either your car or the sub itself. Higher it is, the higher /lower the notes the sub picks up.

I have an 07 spec B with the nav unit under the drivers seat, do you think this would fit under the passenger seat?
@RPGarage6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'd say so. There's room under the seat but you'd need to flip the brackets and wire it down the other side of the gear shift

How does this sound? worth the upgrade?
@RPGarage8 жыл бұрын
definitely worth the upgrade. I installed some polk audio db651/6501 speakers afterward and the sub made more of a difference. I haven't amped the speakers yet which I'm working on but so far the sub made a big change in my sound quality

+Ryan's Garage Thanks Ryan. I bought my 05 legacy a few days ago but it came with an aftermarket headunit. Any idea if I can still use the OEM sub?
@RPGarage8 жыл бұрын
You might be able to. You'll have to check the back to see how the previous owner wired that headunit in. If they just used an aftermarket adapter harness and didn't cut anything then the sub harness can plug right onto the factory harness the way it would if it was going to plug into the stock headunit, then the aftermarket adapter harness would take it from there. If they cut anything on the original harness then you'll need to figure out what they did and work it out.
