Love that you are making these videos! Can't wait to see what you do. Also just a little note, AWD systems like subarus typically don't like miss matched tires. When 1 tires goes bad we typically replace all with matching tires. It messes up our center diffs.

We just did this JDM kit. We didn't buy the wire kit. The sterio plug is pretty simple. The HVAC was a little tricky. There are two plugs left. One is for the HVAC and has a 8 pin with only 3 wires. The other plug is not needed. We cut it off with about two inches of wire. Take this plug apart and use 3 of the pins. Push those into the first plug for the HVAC. One will be a 12v and 2 are dimmer positive and negative. On the JDM site it explains which wires and colors you need. On the 8 pin plug it is numbered 1-8 and it says which hole to put those 3 wires in. It is a little time consuming but not that difficult. We ran a 2000 watt amp so we pulled the stock amp out from under the passenger seat. Take the seat out. Run speaker wires from new amp to old amp location. One plug has 10 wires. 8 are positive and negative speaker wires to front and back doors. The two bigger red wires and not needed but are 12v so tape them up. You can ohm test these from this point straight to each door. On the plug you can tell which wires are for each speaker but not location. I cheated and didn't want to pull the doors apart so I cut the plug off an old pair of headphones and plugged it into my phone and touched it to each pair of wires. Hooked amp up and it now my stereo doesn't SUCK!

Haven't watched it all yet obviously, but if the whole video is about installing a double din, 25 minutes might be a bit long... Also, depending how worn down your tires are you'll want to replace all 4. Running different size tires on an AWD car can really fuck things up.
@KrispyMedia7 жыл бұрын
same size tires btw not sure if I said that or not also yea its a little long but just an experiment to see how we should structure future videos =) This one was more of a how to video for people wanting to do the same more than a install video. The install videos of parts to come and what not will for sure be shorter
@Connor-bq2xo7 жыл бұрын
Krispy Media I figured they were the same size but by different sized tires I meant the difference between the two worn out tires and the two good tires. If there's a difference greater than 3/32nd of an inch it can really stress out the drivetrain on an AWD car. No worries about the long video man, I'm sure some people will want to watch a how-to in depth 👍
@Connor-bq2xo7 жыл бұрын
*Found this online, they explained it much better than I could* Subarus: Subarus have, to our knowledge, the tightest tolerance of any AWD system. Since we see so many, we can tell you what the tolerance is. It can be stated in two ways: The first is 2/32nds tread depth across all four tires. The problem with this is that actual tire dimensions can vary from brand to brand and even from model to model. Therefore the 2/32nds rule is only good if you have the exact same size, brand, and model tire. The other way to check is to measure the tire around the circumference and then the tolerance is 1/4". That was circumference, not diameter, so you have to have a flexible tape ruler and measure around the tread of the tire. Also, having air in the tire affects the circumference. Though the change due to having air in it is only about 1/8", it's pretty critical since the tolerance is only 1/4". Therefore, to get an accurate measurement, it's necessary to let the air out before you measure (since the prospective replacement probably won't be aired up). This second method allows you to check compatibility with any make or model of tire. When we were almost finished with this article, a Subaru came in that needed only one tire, so the picture shows us measuring the prospective replacement tire with our "Subaru Tool". You may ask what the big deal is? Well, on the Subarus, if all four tires aren't matched within 1/4" around the circumference, you will break the transmission, not maybe or sometimes - it definitely happens. Granted it won't happen overnight, and the AWD on many Subarus can be disabled, but the transmissions can definitely get ruined and then they have to be repaired or replaced. Then the cost will be a lot more than the cost of tires!

Great video thanks! I am thinking probably to do the same work on my Outback 2008, I have just a couple of questions/doubts. 1) Do you know if it is possible to have on the display the temperature in celsius and not only in Fahrenheit? 2) Is there a reason why you didn't put the touch on the standard spot for the navi, where you have the little glove box on top? Mine as well as the glove box there and I am wondering which could be the best solution. 3) I saw you installed it in 2017. After 2 years would you buy the same Sony Unit or not? The problem with the switch controller probably could be a reason to look for some alternative units? Thanks a lot!

Thanks for posting the vid, Krispy. It was about time someone made one for this type of install. Here are some helpful links: [click the "Read more" link, below] This page explains which models/years need the JDM dual-DIN HVAC panel kit, and describes the items that you may want, plus has useful tips: ae64.com/aftermarket-HU-install-parts-LO2005AN.htm Wiring instructions are in this post (on the LegacyGT forums): legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2570925&postcount=637 This post further explains which cars need which JDM HVAC panel kit: legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5684242&postcount=3057 Cars with manual A/C controls (the 3 larger round knobs, no digital temperature setting) do not need the i88 harness. You only need one of the less-expensive dash kits that have a single- or double-DIN opening and the same round holes to keep using your car's existing A/C controls: Scosche SU2025B, Metra 95-8901, or Metra 99-8901. Sorry, those are designed only for LHD cars.

Does putting bags on your car negatively affect ride quality? like will it make harder for you to do rolling shots of other cars now? or is it like negligible
@KrispyMedia7 жыл бұрын
actually my hypothesis is that it will actually make the rider and shots smoother. I have it planed once their on to do a video where I show rollers using my bagged car vs before it was bagged so we will see!
@CrabRangoon2457 жыл бұрын
Krispy Media awesome!
@TheLololol967 жыл бұрын
Putting bags on a car does not negatively impact ride quality if you install an Airlift or Accuair kit that is designed to bolt onto your specified vehicle as the dampening rates are adjusted for that particular vehicle. Bag over coils setups with UAS bags and similar don't offer a comfortable ride as the dampening / sometimes cut struts will cause the bag to rub. Some bag over coilover setups like Airforce actually have a 36 level dampening system to negate bad ride quality when on bags. But a kit is much more desirable and will cause less headaches tbh.

Next time buy some dark foam weatherstrip tape from homedepot at the A/C department. It's like $1.99. Wrap some around the connectors/adapters so they won't rattle and around the gap from your HU to the dash kit so you won't see that annoying gap.

Thanks to this video I installed this awesome double DIN on my Subaru Outback. I love it but I would like to find a solution for the gap between the Sony and the plastic frame in the console around it. As you in the video say, everything is around a couple of mm too much inside, I would love to make it even with the frame. Any idea? For instance if I try to make the holes where you fix the Sony to the frame with the screws bigger (at 14:56 in the video...) probably I have the chance to push the frame a couple of mm back, or not?

Hi! I have a 2008 Outback with factory navigation (in the exact spot where that top compartment and clock is in your car). I bought the car used a week ago, and the navigation screen is broken. I'm looking to replace it entirely with an aftermarket one rather than repair the factory screen (because that one doesn't have Bluetooth and other features that the aftermarket ones tend to have). Do you know if it's possible to install it in the area above the climate controls? I would hate to have a dead screen on top and a working one on bottom.

Is Celcius/Fahrenheit something to take in consideration or is that information coming from the car? Just beginning my look into the matter for my 04 sedan. Since I would really want to keep the left hand instruments I'll try to find a way to do so. Does this, or anything like it, come as EU or USA made? Guessing since you go with it that's not an option. Would it be any chance to rebuild the JDM part? Otherwise this was a sweet upgrade from the 90's audio system.

Hi, and well done on finding how this is done. I have just got my Twinscroll estate which I love, excellent condition, everything fine, but the audio and sat nav. What you are doing here, do you know whether there are differences in the Japanese import I have here in the UK to your version?. I know that sounds like a dumb question, but I keep getting conflicting views on it, all from audio specialists, at extortionate prices. That is why they probably conflict, because they want me to be a mug and spend £1500 or something. Please advise, because I use the car for the dog, I do not need to spent £1,500 on a sat nav when I will only use it for about 50 miles per week. But the current audio is in Japanese, and yes the CD works, but only 1 UK radio channel. Thanks and any advice would be nice, because I need a quality fit for what is a great and quality vehicle, but not at, taking the piss prices.

I'm not sure if you or anyone still reply to comments on this old video but I really need help/ information on how you would do this with a JDM version of the Legacy GT. My JDM version has a similar (but flipped) dual-zone climate control to the one seen here stock, but also has a Japanese nav unit on top where this one just has little door/shelf. Is it possible to replace this top nav unit with a double din head unit like the one you put into the radio spot, without having to buy the expensive separate JDM climate control unit, faceplate to fit head unit, and wiring pieces to wire it all? I have no idea how the wiring for the Japanese head unit works, or how the Navigation unit is connected, but if I just left the nav unit on top, could I just follow what you have done the same way? Or is the JDM version of the vehicle different with maybe the wiring harness, climate control unit, etc. I really have no clue and am new to this so any help or links to pages that explain this stuff would be great. Also if anyone knows if I can replace the JDM navigation unit with an English one somehow, that would be very helpful as I can't find information anywhere.
