Im new to the deco system. Have a couple in the house now and just received my x50 outdoor. Watching your video was helpful and just ordered my PoE and 100ft ethernet cable, which will be here tomorrow. Can you do a video showing how to connect up the PoE? Trying to figure out where to place my PoE inside the home.

@@CassandraSmelser usually you will want to install that POE switch near your router but realistically you could put it anywhere that’s convenient for your situation. Mine is located right by my main switch and that’s the most convenient for me but as long as you have a hard wired (Ethernet) connection going from your router to that POE switch than it will work. I’ll see if I can throw together a quick video on connecting that POE switch into your network.

Is the POE necessary? I'd rather plug into an outdoor electrical outlet. I have plenty of those.
@jessehjensenКүн бұрын
@@marinopascal1970 POE is not required and this unit come with a regular electrical cord so you should be good to go with the unit out of the box.

I am thinking about buying one for myself but I don't see many after few months reviews. Can you please make a new video? To test out long term reliability

Hi Jessie, thanks for the nice video. This one has 2 ethernet jacks, so are you able to daisy chain them, does it send any power out or is it just for data purposes? What are some ways you can use the 2nd port? I have the same POE switch and I have x55 deco mesh at home and I will be adding this as wired backhaul all the way from my main unit, but I wanted to check if there are ways to utilize the 2nd port on this.

Thanks for watching. I have really enjoyed these outdoor AP units and they have been rock solid. The second ethernet port is for data purposes only and no power is transmitted out via that port. It’s really there to provide a data connection to a nic whether that be another switch connecting a separate part of your home, or just a computer that doesn’t have Wi-Fi. It is limited to data connections only.

@@jessehjensen That's actually great because I was thinking of running wire from outdoor AP to another room, drill through siding and get wired connection there. If this has 2nd port to continue carrying data, now I don't have to run a whole new line there. This is excellent. Thanks.

Hi, i currently just have my standard ISP router which provides enough wifi around the home inside. But not strong enough to reach the back yard. Would this work if i just run an ethernet cable from the back yard and plug it directly into the router, or do i need to buy any other DECO devices? Thanks
@jessehjensen5 ай бұрын
You can use these AP’s without any other deco devices (stand alone). You just need a POE switch if you plan on powering them via POE or you can use the included power cable if you have a power plug near by.

Do you do a PoE connection to just the main x-50 or should each x50 have its own PoE connection. Im adding 5 deco units to cover a large area of land.
@jessehjensen17 күн бұрын
@@kxfjerry9087 Each X-50 needs its own POE connection coming from a POE switch or a POE injector. I find the Switch to be the best solution for most use cases. TP-Link makes several POE switches to choose from.
@kxfjerry908716 күн бұрын
@@jessehjensen Would this be different than a wired backhaul setup?
@jessehjensen16 күн бұрын
@@kxfjerry9087 the wired back haul function is using ethernet to provide connectivity to the Deco as opposed to using the mesh wireless connectivity between Deco’s. The POE option could be used to just power the Deco and still use mesh wireless technology to connect each deco together back to the router preferably you would use the ethernet cable to provide POE and also carry the data through the wired backhaul all in one cable. That’s the most efficient and fastest method, one cable that would perform both functions. If you had one main ethernet run to a central location of where your Deco’s would be then place your POE switch in that central location and make your runs out to each X - 50, that would probably be the best option but I’m making a generalized statement not knowing your specific layout and configuration.

My yard is about an acre in size and with one AP in the front and one in the back I have solid coverage.
