THANK YOU!!!!! Your video save my month. I am overloaded with new plumbing install on my daughters newly bought 1884 farm house and just found out she has knob and tube in everything but the basement "cover up" job they did. I am redoing the large bathroom and have so so much to do theis helps me pout so so much. Thanks!!!!

This is the best video I've found, after hours of searching! This is my situation almost exactly. My question is, if you don't know for sure if you have a stud on one side, how should you proceed? My stud finder is not giving me much confidence.

Yea a stud finder dont work well with lath and plaster, most studs are 16 on the center, so you can use a nail to try and find it. Or make a small hole and use a wire to see how far in it is left and right.

Really powerful magnet works great for finding studs in plaster & lathe. It will attract to the nails that are holding the lathe assembly to the stud. Hang the magnet by a string and drag it along the wall. I use a magnet that is about 4" x 1" from Harbor Freight. Actually I use two magnets stuck together, which holds the string.

Do you then remove those 3 screws to the right that hold the lath and mud? Or leave them in?
