the sealing needs to be between the stainless bolt and washers and the ali. parts to stop electrolysis

Was thinking about making one of these out of a piece of 3/16” aluminum. Mine would be flat without the rolled edge. I think the rolled edge is beneficial but I can’t do that. Any idea if a flat hand fitted cavitation would still be beneficial?
@ChasingPelagics3 жыл бұрын
they are rather inexpensive, you're better off spending your money on a nice painted product with hardware that is not gonna corrode and trying to save $20

Hi there did the permatrim make difference in handling? Did top speed change? Planing speed ?
@thrasher9494 жыл бұрын
MrBMan no change in top speed. It’s makes the stern ride a little higher. Almost the same as moving up a hole, but you don’t loose your low speed turning especially in reverse. Helps when u add weight to the rear (200lbs of ice, fish, and full 60 gallon bait tank).
@A.Matt72 жыл бұрын
Trim tabs could do that

G'day, I have cavitation problems, can't get up on the plane very easily, possibly because my motor cavitation fins are 2" too high compared to the bottom of the hull. Any opinions on these to reduce this problem? Thanks, Jeff, Australia.
@thrasher9494 жыл бұрын
Jeff H this device will not cause cavitation. First thing I would check is if your outboard in installed at the right height. This is most likely your issue. Second would be the proper prop for your weight and speed of the boat.
@BornAgainCynic00864 жыл бұрын
@@thrasher949 Hi mate, Thanks for the very quick reply! I meant if I put the Permatrim on, do you think it will reduce cavitation, sorry. Yeah, I know the motor is a bit high, but to lower it I would have to hack into the transom lip and I really don't want to do that!! When it finally does get up on the plane (after getting some poor bastard to sit on the bow for 2 minutes, the thing fairly flies. (for 15hp that is)

I have on on a 17 foot skiff with a 90 Yamaha and one on a 24 foot Triton center console with a 250 Suzuki. They make a profound difference in Boat handling. I will never own any boat with one.
@superdave5792 жыл бұрын
The 17 foot skiff do you have a hydraulic jackplate on it as well, or can you run this without a jackplate? I've got a 50 hp.Merc on a 16.5 foot bass boat I want to try it on

@ahndeux3 жыл бұрын
You are sealing it the wrong way. Its good that you put a ring around it, but it has to be in the hole around exposed aluminum. Water will find its way between washer to get inside. Best way is to put ring of sealant as shown in the video, some inside the edges of the hole and a dab on the bolt ends and the washer before you tighten it down. That way, the bolt and washer is sealed. It will get messy, but you can clean it up easily before it dries. You just created a nice little pocket for the water to sit and corrode the aluminum.

I am thinking if the manufacturers of outboards thought these would help their product, they would come from the factory with them already on. They have engineers that have already figured it out for us.
@ChasingPelagics4 жыл бұрын
I would disagree, manufactures make generic products that are designed to work amongst multiple product lines. In this case, this boat now carries a 60 gallon bait tank, 200lbs of ice and usually a full tank of fuel (150 gallons). Adding permatrim and a 15 pitch prop gave me slightly better mpg, better ride and an increase of 7 mph top speed.
@mixter7x73 жыл бұрын
manufacturers ( all manufacturers ) measure production costs #1 against performance and reliability when determining their designs. the manufacturing engineers could easily produce products that perform equal to or greater than any after market product, but everything they add into their production cost is multiplied on the backside of the purchase pricing.
@jimmcflytorres303 жыл бұрын
@@ChasingPelagics i think i can relate to this , just added a bait tank to my boat and has been hard getting on plane, lower pitch prop and this permatrim should do the trick
