How-to Install Pro-Flex Gas Lines [Propane or Natural Gas]

The fittings on the Pro-Flex flexible gas pipe are pretty straightforward. Once you figure out how to get the length to a fitting figured out, that part should go smoothly - if you have the correct tubing cutter (make sure you get one of those as other methods will not work). The manufacturer recommends eight foot spacing of straps, but I went with two foot spacing as anything else cased drooping of the pipe and I din not want that.
I used 3/4" one hole Rigid Pipe strapping on the run along the top of the side of the bottom chord because the line needed to be right at the top with nothing protruding over the top. I'll be using boards up there to access the attic to blow-in insulation ay some point. Make sure to use rigid pipe straps as the EMT ones are too small 😊

Never used home or pro flex. Maybe it's better now, but when that stuff first came out nothing but problems and leaks from fittings. I would go to a customer's house because they smelled gas and sure enough it was from the pro flex. We wouldn't even repair it. We would either re do the customers entire house in trac pipe, or shut down their tank until the contractor who installed it came back to fix it. There's a reason that stuff is a lot cheaper then trac pipe! Also you have to be certified to even buy trac pipe/ counter strike where has home depot will sell it to anyone. That's how people get hurt or dead But the job looks clean, not taking anything away from the craftsmanship, just the product

Very nice video sir, when it comes to gas installation I only (company demanded) black Iron. So, I enjoyed your video, can you tell me though, what did you use for your 90s, I went to proflex website and all I found were male, female, manifolds and tees?!?!?!?! Also, I wish I could get my apprentices to assemble parts outside like you did, would make my job so much easier.
@PlanetMojo
@PlanetMojo Жыл бұрын
Thanks David! For most 90's you just bend the ProFlex, but if you have a real tight spot you would need to use an iron fitting and two ProFlex adapter fittings or iron into the fitting and one ProFlex fitting out. Ideally you would jus bend the ProFlex as I did. The whole object is to use very few fittings and plan the run to have gradual bends. Hope that helps 😊

@PlanetMojo

You would have to check with code, but I believe you need steel pipe outside. I have steel coming into the building and up into the rafters, then switch to Pro-Flex up there. If it's run in a wall you would need nail guard plates on the studs so you don't nail into it later.

They sell poly pipe and kits with steel risers that all can be buried. The riser looks like a 2-3' elbow that connects to poly underground then the steel emerges at the ground so the poly isn't coming straight out of the ground.

Not really! Because National code allows copper to be used for natural gas. New york city does not use national code, they have their own code ,the blue monster tape for gas is "yellow'' ; you used teflon tape. Sulphur breaks down the tape. California has the strictest plumbing code then its New York City.

@Ariel1S
@Ariel1S Жыл бұрын
@@PlanetMojo Yah, I noticed at 16:01 it was backwards. It probably won't be fine, you really should redo it. You don't have to remember the clock direction, just imagine you are screwing the fitting onto the pipe, and hold the Teflon straight while rotating the fitting in the direction of attaching it. If you do that it will be right. You can also test it after, hold your fingers over the Teflon, and rotate the fitting and see if the Teflon comes off, or if it gets tighter.
@PlanetMojo
@PlanetMojo Жыл бұрын
@@Ariel1S It will be absolutely fine if the threads go on it. The direction of wrap is just so it doesn't unravel when you are starting. If the threads go on it, it's fine.
@Ariel1S
@Ariel1S Жыл бұрын
@@PlanetMojo I'm sorry, but this isn't true. If the threads are backwards it tends to unwrap when you tighten it, and then it leaks. Maybe in your situation because it's very low pressure gas it can handle it, I don't know, but if you tried that with a water pipe it would leak 100% for sure. I've made this mistake occasionally, as soon as you screw the pipe you can see the Teflon start to unwind itself from the threads rather than be firmly on the threads as the pipe goes deeper into the fitting.
@PlanetMojo
@PlanetMojo Жыл бұрын
@@Ariel1S I repeat, the tape did not unwind, if it doesn't unwind, it's perfectly fine - and that would be at any pressure. If it had unwound, I would have done it over. It would not have leaked with water either as the contact is exactly the same.
@anthonymonah7116
@anthonymonah7116 5 ай бұрын
I read it but no form of tape is recommended for ''gas'' because the sulphur in the gas breaks it down. ''PRO DOPE'' is better, you have to lubricate the threads not seal them. NO PERMATEX!
