Werewolf have you tried both name folders? when a game launches press enter to open the rom options, you can try another emulator for a particular rom and in some cases it will work.

+ ETA Prime That is fantastic advice in your video. It has taken me a while but I have finally got a mame rom to work for Golden Axe. I've learnt the best way is to download all the roms onto usb stick & place in raspberry pie (0 in my case) & just try them all out until you get to the one that works, and delete the unusable ones. Has opened up a new world of possibilities for me. Many thanks again for the good advice. Still trying to get Amiga roms to work, but that's another story. I have been watching your other video. Keep them coming my friend:)

Quick tip: if you end up breaking your image, throw your microSD card into a digital camera. Most times the camera can reformat the card to stock. Really helpful if you are without an internet connection or don't have any imaging software already installed.

Still my favourite MAME ROM set on the RasPi 3. Many of these work really well, and hit the right sweet spot of nostalgia for someone my age. The few ones that don't run, I find that switching the emulator to libretro 2003 usually fixes it. In The Hunt and Mystic Rider are good examples of this. I have a separate Neo Geo set, and CPS stuff on FBA, and between them all it covers things nicely. I did try the 2003 set but found far too many not working and no way to fix them. It's easier setting a circa 2000 ROM to a 2003 emu, than it is to either up or downgrade a 2003 ROM I found. YMMV.

Tell me why every single marvel vs capcom rom or metal slug rom I try doesn't run on either mame emulator? I re Imaged and tried different ROMs from different sites and none run. I have not got ONE mame rom to run. Not on FBA or FBNeo either. I have been able to play N64 stuff like Zelda OoT. I gave up trying to get Mame to work. HI, I am having trouble setting up the console. I installed vanilla retro pie and copied a bunch of zipped roms into the correct folder. Games are shown in the list correctly, but none of them start. I put a bunch of different mame bioses and managed to start Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, but all others just fade to black and then come back to the retropie menu screen. Any advice? Please, my gf loves Soul Calibur and Metal Slug :D

I like the fighting stick because it's the closest thing I have to actual arcade controls. But I can't seem to get my Hori fighting stick to configure in mame4all. Mame4all will not acknowledge the joystick movements on the fighting stick (although it recognizes the buttons). All the mame emulators using retroarch work fine, but many of my roms don't seem to work on those. Has anyone gotten an arcade stick to work?

I got it. On a Mac, make sure you format the USB stick to MS DOS (FAT) or else the Raspberry Pi won't recognize it.

I followed your video on Neogeo and how to get it to work on the Retropie and it worked great. For some reason I cannot get this to work at all. Rom starts, shows blank command prompt for a few seconds, then goes back to game select screen. It has to be something simple, I'm pretty sure the roms are good because it is from where all of my other roms come from and they work fine (NES, SNES, etc).

+Mike Crouse i suggest using the Final Burn Alpha Emulator for arcade/mame roms kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6q2Xpdsm8h1j6c mame roms need to match the version of the emulator you are using so it can be hard to keep track of which rom works with which emulator you can read more here github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/MAME I've found that the final burn alpha emulator run 90 percent of mame roms just fine.

+ETA PRIME I can play NeoGeo roms in Retropie but with the NeoGeo emulator, not FInalBurn Alpha (although I haven't even tried). I just downloaded a bunch of CPS2 games (Street Fighter Alpha 1/2/3, Cyberbots, Xmen Children of the Atom, etc) from a reputable site and put them in the retropie oms\fba folder and they will not load in FBA. I get to a blank prompt again and back to the FBA menu in Retropie. What am I missing? Do these ROMS need to be adjusted with a program like clrmamepro due to "romset"? Sorry for the bothering but I am going crazy.

another , probably more important thing: the 4 coloured square at the upper right corner is not a Raspberry pi logo, but a voltage/power drop warning! this means you are probably not using a power supply with 2amps.(go and buy the official one) this often leads to instability when emulating more cpu demanding games

I want to use my Raspberry Pi 2, for a MAME and XMBC - Kodi. Would I need to create two separate partitions on the SD Card? One partition for the OS for the MAME, and the other partition for the OS for Kodi? Also is it possible to create multiple partitions, and can you allow the Rasberry Pi to pick which partition to boot from. Or would it just be easier to have one SD Card for MAME, and another SD card for the Kodi? Sorry I'm a noob, if this is a dumb question.

Hridoy Govinda Das you could have a bunch of ROMs that work with a particular emulator and drop them in arcade, from there you can set the default emulator to run for all those ROMs. then use mameforall for ROMs that work best with another emulator. then you get the Arcade and Mame titles showing at not 2. the arcade is like a wild card folder so it's up to you what default emulator to use for arcade.

Hridoy Govinda Das also give clearmamepro a look at, it's helped me configure some of the ROMs that don't load. Also if you google '0.37b5 roms' the first result is an archive link which is all the ROMs from that set. Use this for mameforall and if some don't work run them through clearmamepro, it's not 100% going to fix a rom as sometimes they can't be fixed. There's a simple tutorial on KZbin on how to use it also. Good luck!

throw in the neo geo bio into the bios folder along with roms folder. all games should just work off that one bio. at least it does for me. just make sure to download the correct files that go to that specific romset.

I plugged my SD Card back into my computer and because it only shows the main folder and not the MAME folder I have to go into Retropie and use the settings menu to copy over the files to the proper folder. +ETA PRIME Yea that didn't help. I took the SD card out of my Pi and placed it back into my PC. When you open the SD on windows you can only see the main boot sector for Retropie. So you have to just dump ROMS onto that, then plug the sd card back into the Pi, and boot up, then go into the settings menu, and transfer them through there. I just don't remember how.

+Mike Rota make folder named retropie on the USB stick , place it in the pi until the light on the USB drive stops blinking "one or two minutes" the pi will make folders inside of the USB drive, take the USB stick and put it back in the pc, inside of the retropie folder you created there will be a few new folders, open up the roms folder and place the correct roms in the correct emulator folder, place the USB stick back in the pi and it will copy the roms you added to the sd card, reboot and your roms are now playable.

Forgot to mention, Simpsons isn't the best for mapping all 4 controllers because the characters hook to each other for special moves. I believe Final Fight is bad too since you can hit your partner.

MAME 1.41 and 1.64 are both good. 1.64 is newer but 1.41 seems to be more compatible with certain games.

+xChaos_Acid Parent roms are the full game , lets say 4 player x-men game (japan) - but you want the 2 player US version , The 4 player x-men game (japan) needs to be in your rom folder also in order for the 2 player US version to work. The (4 player x-men game (japan) has the full game in it and 2 player US version has the 2 player mode and english translation. The parent roms go in your name rom folder also. emu paradise is awesome google it .

+ETA PRIME hello, when i downloaded 99 games, emu paradise displayed the parent rom was 'repulse'. when i put both of them in the mame rom folder, and when i tried to play it, it continued to say error. what do i do?

How do you exit MAME? I'm stuck in there once the game loads.

christopher barrious if you are using retropie just hit the buttons that you assigned select and start to. That should take you to the menu of retropie

If you hit tab you might be able to find some way to, cant currently look into it. Will tell you if i figure it out

christopher barrious hey i figured it out in case you still didnt, what you do is go to the MAME UI( tab as default) then go to general and assign UI cancel to start and select if you want it to be the same as the other emulators. This allows you to exit the game by hitting start and select

I downloaded a ROM pack but a lot of them claim that files are missing when you go to play them. Obviously the game is there because it comes up on the list.

Some need parent roms to function. So you may need a couple more that don't function to make even one work. Its silly I know.

if you follow the compatibility list above where he first commented and have the parent roms and bios it should work fine.
