Hello, you only need a transformer if your video doorbell requires a hard-wired connection. Which model do you have?

The ring 2 uses a rechargeable battery for power. No wiring needed. The Ring Pro requires hard wired 24 volt AC power supplied by a transformer (120 Volt AC to 24 Volt AC). If you aren't comfortable tying into your home's electrical panel or from another more local power source (light, switch, etc.) then call an electrician. This video does not show what the title says, so it's confusing.

Does it require having Alexa or anything to use aside from just your phone, Wi-Fi and app? I always see where it says works with Alexa etc. I get that means it can but I want to be sure it isn't a must.

Hello and thank you for the comment. You are correct, you only need your phone (or computer, tablet), WI-Fi and App. Alexa is helpful if you have a fire stick or fire tv and want to watch live events on the TV. For example, if you have a motion event while you are home, you could say "Echo, show front door." The fire tv will then stop what you're currently watching and switch to that camera. I don't have it connected to my TV because my phone is always within arms reach.

Yes, you can either charge the doorbell by removing it from the base. Another option you have is to buy the additional solar panel. The solar panel has been hit and miss for me
