Recapping because it keeps coming up. It was a day or two before moving so I had no tools or accessories available to assist with this project. I did need this roof rack to help hold items during the move. What I used is what was available after the movers picked up our household goods. Thank you all for the comments in advising others on more efficient and practical ways of completing this project. Your feedback and comments are what make this DIY community the best and help people save exponential amounts of money. Thank you for your time and efforts, have a great day!

Thank you very much.....this was a big help. One suggestion is to use clamps and a bandsaw/reciprocating/multi/jig saw instead of the (edit) snips to get a clean cut on the track.

suggestion from another video: Use a small piece of cardboard under the screwdriver to protect the paint from chipping or scratching. Thanks for this video.

Great video - thanks! I used a bike tire lever to avoid paint scratch and a jig saw to cut the rails.

Thanks for your input, that probably would have been much easier.

Pretty good install video. Only thing I would add (lol) is to use a rag or clothe of sorts to lay on the car while you use a screw driver to pop cover off in order to protect your brand new paint job. You can buy the trim removal kit at Harbor Freight for 10$ or less. But great job being careful with that screw driver. You’re a brave man my friend lol.

Your link for the Amazon Roof Rails goes to a part that indicates it does not fit the 2018 (08L02-TK8-100), and it does not match the part number at the hondapartsstore link (08L02-THR-100). Are you certain about the part number at the Amazon link?

Thanks for the feedback, I've updated the link to (08L02-TK8-102) which shows compatible with 2018.

Why would you use snips when something calls for a saw? Use a hacksaw and you won't have the problem that you absolutely smashed the stripping.

Are the crossbars adjustable? We bought an Odyssey with this already installed but it won’t work with our old roof carrier...I need to shorten the distance but it appears I cannot due to the fact there are pre determined holes in the side rails...thanks for your help and great video!

when installing a roof rail and crossbars on a 2014 honda odyssey, do holes need to be made in the roof? Or can the existing holes be used?

Would you recommend thread locker on any of the bolts?

Thread locker definitely wouldn't hurt. Ours are still tight over a year later and with multiple long range road trips.

so the amazon link you provided is not compatible with a 2018. is that a typo? also, for future use, honda e-store is $100 more expensive than other online OEM store. check out hondapartsnow.com, hondapartsnetwork.com or hondapartscheap.com for better prices.
@DIYwithChris5 жыл бұрын
That could be a typo, Amazon showed me that it was compatible when I linked it. I bought off of the estore. Please let me know if see the correct one.
@ek9freak5 жыл бұрын
I did the same with amazon but that link is for the 2011-17 model. I cross checked on all of the 3 sites I mentioned on my previous comment plus on e-store the OEM part number is 08L02-THR-100 for black and 08L02-THR-100A for chrome. Lastly, cutting the black top liner would be easier with a dremel tool. That’s what I used when I installed it on my 2014.

What is the height of the rail and crossbars after installation? Thanks!
@DIYwithChris5 жыл бұрын
Distance between the inside edges of the two bars is approx 2' 2 1/2"". Roof to bar on the outside is approx 2 1/2". The space does get higher in the middle but I currently have a cargo box up top so I can't measure there. Bars are about 2 1/2" wide as well.

The crossbars don’t seem to tighten enough and still move a bit, is this normal or what so the solution?

Mine did not move after I tightened them down. Possibly crossthreading or just a faulty piece.

These crossbars are not adjustable & sit too far to the front of the vehicle. When the cargo carrier is placed on top, it is nearly impossible to reach by standing on the back bumper, as it sits too far forward on the van. A huge waste of $500 & the dealership never mentioned that these are not able to be adjusted.
