Pondering how to mount a Scotty low profile track to a Swift Keewaydin with carbon thwarts and found your video. Thanks so much, that was a really great tutorial on exactly what I need to do!

This was a simple project and despite the small issue I had, I am 100% pleased with the results. I will do a follow up video in the near future that will show some of my setup in use... Thanks for watching and *Keep the Adventures Alive!*

Good information to have. Glad you published this. I'm always getting new ideas from other canoeist on mounting apertures and extensions. It's interesting how many ways there are to install camera brackets, fishing rod holders, etc. with just a few thwarts and 2 gunnels. "I was a little leery on actually drilling into a carbon fiber thwart..." my sentiments indeed! Glad to have you go first! Nice video. 😊

Hi Marc.. yes that kind of sucked but after I jumped up a drill bit size there were no further issues... It looks great and today I got a few new mounts for the system that I will try this weekend... Take care buddy

Thanks for the video Dennis. I've been researching doing the exact same thing with my Swift Cruiser 15.8. I'm thinking that a (black) tri-fold rivet would hold better while putting less concentrated force on the brittle carbon thwart. They're pretty easy to get on Amazon. Keep the videos coming!

Really looks good Dennis . It probably doesn't matter with carbon fiber but I would still take a dab of epoxy (you could probably color it black) and seal the chip. I know on my bass boat (fiberglass) they recommend sealing to keep moisture from getting under the gelcoat. Carbon fiber may be completely different but I'd check just in case

Good Call Chuck... I will likely so that. I have a few drops of epoxy kicking around that I can use. Thanks for watching. Dennis

I used lock tight, 3/16 bolts, rubber washer and winged locking nuts. The rubber takes the vibration and is better than rivets. If the rod holder has to be removed it is alot easier. Rivett to me damage it.

I want to install the same track on my swift canoe but the thwart is cherry wood. Would i use a stainless steel wood screw instead?
@CanoehoundAdventures2 ай бұрын
Hi Stephen. If you are installing into the cherry thwarts, I would recommend stainless steel screws and also pre drilling for the wood does not split on you. That is what I did on my other canoes.
@stephenelderkin50222 ай бұрын
Thanks. Now i just have to figure out what size of screw and length. The track came with four 3/4 inch round headed philips screws.

Where did you purchase the cross over bar to mount theses holders on ?
@CanoehoundAdventures2 ай бұрын
the cross over bar is the thwart of the canoe

if your rivets are long enough put a washer on the underside of the carbon it helps spread the force.
@CanoehoundAdventures4 жыл бұрын
Great tip but the rivets do not go all the way through he thwart... it is tubular in shape... Thanks for watching Davy
