How about a How To on flat grinding sockets. I know you can buy chamferless sockets from various places (Park, Abbey etc) but nobody seems to sell a 20mm socket for 2017 Manitou Circus Experts. Should I just bodge it with a normal socket or is there a better way? On a side-note, when bending a spoke into a trail-side chain 3rd hand tool I always leave one side long. It makes it a bit easier to remove with wet/cold hands and harder to loose. It also comes in useful for a shed load of things, off the top of my head, you have a pick for cleaning out muddy bolt holes before you try and round them off ;-) you could unbend it and use it to fish out ghetto EDC items from your handlebars/BB axle, maybe even holding a tourniquet tight! (hope you never have to use that one)

#GMBNTech @doddstar1979 Could you do a bit on how to get the correct settings on a fork and shock? I know you have covered TONS of material on them in shop. But I would like to see one trail side on what to look for. I remember one you did in Spain with fork rebound. I'm certainly capable of making the adjustments but not necessarily good at knowing what I'm feeling on the trail. Some tips on different things to look/feel for while riding would close the loop for many on getting the right suspension set up.

For setting up B-tension: Shimano 12 speed derailleurs have a mark on the back side of the cage which you can line up with the biggest sprocket on the cassette!

Okay, so after Halfords well and truly stuffed my bike I had a problem. Gears were clunky front derailleur hardly worked, frame scratched. Appreciate it is a Carrera and my first bike in a long old time, but still, not cheap and rendered useless by them. However not being one to throw the towel in just yet, I tooled up, stripped bike, took all the crappy components off, repaired paint work. Going with a reasonable single front cog Cues 11 speed U6000 kit, with no idea on what to do or how to do it. This video is probably the best and had my bike up and running in an hour, took it for a ride and fantastic! Love it again and it is transformed. Just wish I had viewed a few videos before buying my bike and may as well have spent a lot more in the first instance rather than throwing good money after bad. However! This video is fantastic, clear and concise (there is a lot of crap on you tube with people being more about themselves than what "you" want to achieve). So keep up the excellent work, I am a convert!

The Hanger alignment tool is way underrated and imo needed for every bike, the first thing i do on a new bike is use the hanger alignment tool and Every Single One is out, I offer to do my mates bikes now I know that and tell them i have never found an aligned hanger, and guess what, theirs is out just like all the rest. Id rather have a GX aligned than XO1 that is out and the tool is very cheap compared to its Upgrade benefit imo.

Excellent comment, I have found the same. Solves a lot of shifting issues too. Its the first thing I do both on new bikes, but also before I adjust shifting tension.

I always like these real-time videos, that way you can practically follow on at home monkey-see monkey-do style. I wouldn’t mind seeing a video on beating replacement for a full sus bike, ideally one there the bearings are pressed into the frame so you need to use a blind bearing puller or a slide hammer to get the old ones out.

BB press is more than just a “miniature headset press”. BB press has sized dies that fit into the opposite side of the BB, so that you’re guaranteed the cup you’re pressing is axially aligned. I’ve learned the hard way that no method other than a proper BB press is acceptable. Better to get it done in a bike shop if a person won’t get a bb press. I like the “wheels manufacturing” one.

Doddy, why don't you use a torque wrench when you tighten the bolts? You mentioned about stripping the insert out of the crank arm without the use of the washer, this can still happen if you over torque due to the lack of a torque wrench

Some hubs are designed to accept both MTB and Road cassettes - so depending on the cassette you're using you may or may not need it (for example a quick google says that with Hope Pro4 hubs you use the spacer for Shimano MTB cassettes including 10 or 11 speed, but that you'd leave it off if you're using their 11-speed road cassette) - the spacer goes on first, then the cassette.

No issues with assembly for me kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".

Watched GMBN happily for years and learned a lot, but sadly, there hasn't been basically any content that would've sparked my interest in quite a long time already, since I've already seen the numerous other versions they've made of the same topic. There have been some good videos, like the "Most custom E-bike ever?" or something along those lines on EMBN, and some stuff on Tech. Would be interested to know what the presenters and other crew think of this honestly but obviously we can't hear their real opinion..
