It's nice to have some snappy videos here even if you are learning on the job and are going to make some mistakes. We can all learn together and from each other's mistakes, even the minor ones. It looks like you're going to have an awesome shower! It's also my first time and it's fun to try things out.

Maybe I didn't see it but is there a shower pan liner? I believe the slope per code is 1/4" per foot and not 1/2" and I would suggest not setting the wallboard into the shower floor. In this instance, you will need to use waterproofing on everything including the curb and the shower pan to avoid issues in the future. If you don't water proof the floor and keep any water from touching the pan, water will wick up the concrete wallboard at the bottom and eventually get into the wood framing.

Yeah i made a mistake saying 1/2 inch but I did do 1/4”. Also I did the water proofing afterwards you can see it in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqWzdJiMqq-An6M

So I need to do this first and then do the durock? Can you pleas explain? I’m going to go off of your videos since you have the best step by step tutorial
@Daddicated2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. First you should install the rubber liner, then install the durock, then do the mud set. I made a mistake and forgot about the rubber linear until durock was already on along with some of the tile so I had to go with plan B.

Maybe just dont take this guy's advice in general. He didnt use 4 to 1 mix in the pan and slapped plain durock up on the walls.

How long does the sand mix take to dry? And what kind of tile cement did u use for the imperfections? Thx!
@Daddicated3 жыл бұрын
I believe you suppose to let it sit for at least 24 hours but it might be 48 hrs before tiling. I don't recall exactly but the instructions on the bag should tell you. I used Versabond white thinset mortar. It looks like this: amzn.to/2WNiZle. It should be at your local Home Depot. Other brand thinset should work too.

I think you forgot to add the pebbles.. otherwise any water that gets under the tiles will be stuck just at the boarder of the shower drain as the concrete goes until below the border of the drain.

pebbles? For what exactly?

You didn't bond you mud bed to the concrete.
@Daddicated4 жыл бұрын
What do u mean?
@hereticxxx93174 жыл бұрын
@@Daddicated 2 ways to pour a pan, bonded and unbonded. On concrete its typically bonded which means you do a slurry coat first, it bond the bed to the concrete. Also its 1/4" per foot, you can do 1/2" per foot but that's going to be really steep at the drain side since Its off center. Then you used a topical water proofing with what looks like a floor sink style drain. Doesnt look like a drain ment for a shower but hard to tell.
@spankrobot4 жыл бұрын
this way it stays uncoupled so the tile won't crack when there is movement underneath.

@@Daddicated good save but liner should be at the base of the drain. Drain has weep holes that have to work to remove the moisture that penetrates mudjob and rolls down the presloped liner.
@Daddicated3 жыл бұрын
Umm 🤔 good to know. Well on the next one I’ll definitely won’t forget it. Thankfully my base floor is the concrete foundation so even if it gets a tiny bit of moisture I think I should be okay.
@numeroVLAD3 жыл бұрын
@@Daddicated its done. It would be interesting to monitor. Its counterintuitive but concrete is very porous and allows water to flow thru. Special treatment is required to make impervious concrete. If the flow of water is not great like in the shower it might be okay for a long time.
