It doesn't use an AMD specific kernel because AMD directly contributes to the Linux kernel mainline themselves (i.e. AMD support is already a part of any modern Linux kernel), and also the userspace graphics graphics libraries too.

To fix the scaling issue with Gaming Mode what you have to do is: Go into Gaming Mode. Push ESC. Click Settings. Under System flip on the Dev Mode toggle. Scroll to the bottom of the main left menu and you’ll now have a Developer tab. Flip the switch off for Open GL Compositor. Enjoy. I use Gaming Mode for the system connected to my TV working like a console.

On a regular PC running the SteamOS rom, or on the steamdeck? The steamOS isn't neccesarily that much faster than a regular distro such as Manjaro, garuda, popOS, etc, so a normal windows vs linux video would probably cover most of it. I have been considering a linux vs steamos one, though all of this is _very_ hardware dependent. Thanks for stopping by though, I have to plan it out a bit better if I do it!

@@durschfalltv7505 I think that's a recent change. Given that Gamescope uses Wayland and NVidia support for that is still very much in development. @@CoilWhine that's a shame. vulkan is really hit or miss on older intel cpus. i don't expect old intel igpus to ever be supported properly. i have an i3-4005U and installing linux on my pc definitely increased the usability and actually made some games like the witcher enhanced edition playable, but newer games that directly use vulkan or newer opengl are just nearly impossible to even launch unless i use `PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%` in the launch options which still isn't a guarantee to work.

About getting "really mad" if you call them emulators: Well, you see, its like when you see someone talking about boxing, but he is calling it "wrestling" instead. They are not the same thing, they are completely different. But for someone uninformed, it may look similar, just because both are practiced on rings. An emulator simulates hardware devices. A console emulator is emulating the devices that a console has, like the processors, sound chips, memory, etc. and it runs its software (games), by simulating all those devices. On the other hand, Proton and Wine are not emulating anything. They are compatibility layers. Basically, they are translators instead; they translate Windows instructions to its Linux equivalent, but without having to emulate any devices.

And you say it "Deb", "Ian" but as one word. I know. You look at it written on the page and you think it must be complicated. But it's really that simple. It's just two names - Deb and Ian - squashed together as one word. Your brain just thinks it's harder than it is, and starts adding in complications that just ain't there. "Deb", "Ian".
