The green with red stripe and black with yellow are wires used for jeeps that have the (stock) "infinity" sound system package. They split and run to each front door and end with a connector piece that would attach to the infinity speakers connector. If your jeep doesn't have the infinity system then they are useless (unless you want to install a tweeter or equivalent).

MrJc can you explain that better? I have the infinity system so what on the aftermarket radio harness would i connect the (mine is actually blue with red and green with red) wires to? Also left over i have a solid yellow wire?

The blue wire is actually for subwoofers cause there is a blue wire that runs from the amp to the radio to that blue wire

That’s correct, I rewired the original stereo plug harnesses back in my 98 Cherokee over the weekend and I was left with those same exact wire’s like his, mine did not have the infinity system or tweeters

I tried installing an aftermarket radio yesterday. I just hooked the same color wires from the harness for the radio to the harness Best Buy sold me for my 2000 Cherokee Sport. The radio worked but now I have no dash or running lights, and I don't have any blown fuses.

It was very easy! Your video was helpful! I finally got around to rewire the original plugs back in my 98 Cherokee while I had to replace my stereo. The pioneer I had was hardwired to this car’s harness side and after putting the original plugs back in, I was able to buy the aftermarket metra harness and install a nicer Jvc unit in the XJ!

What is your suggestion for keeping the stock stereo, but upgrading the stock speakers? An '00 XJ I could be buying has the factory tape and CD deck but stock speakers and I want to keep the stock radio and put in new speakers. I don't want to spend a lot of money, but from what I've heard, the XJ's don't have the best stock speakers unless you got the Infinity Gold system, which the Jeep I could be buying doesn't have.

Gotta love your 4.0 I6! I have that engine in my Jeep. I actually originally had a '94 5.2 Grand Cherokee as a project but it was too much to deal with so I got rid of it and got my '02 and I couldn't be happier!

I got mine installed and can't for the life of Me get my driver side speaker to work.I removed the cd player thinking a wire came lose or something but found nothing.I even swapped the speaker thinking it could be that.im running kenwoods all the way around and in the back on the headliner thing I have 2 Polk audio.anyone have any ideas as too what it could be? My CD player is a kenwood with the Bluetooth which is awesome.I get in my XJ which my phone and my CD player starts playing my playlist.no fooling around with a aux plug.

common issue my XJ had it to the speakers broken between the door and the frame.. its a jeep thing just have to resplice the speaker wire if not that idk

I tapped fresh speaker wires in & bypassed the factory sound system. Works great !! You can thank Chrysler for using shit wires in these Jeep XJ’s
