If you just have a Red wire, hook it to either Rh or Rc, doesn't mater... Unlike most thermostats, the Nest Learning Thermostat does not require a jumper wire between Rh and Rc. Nest knows that if you've got heating and cooling, and just one R wire, the power source is shared between them. ... Nest Thermostat connectors are built so that only one wire can be inserted per connector.

This is all well & good …..for gas heat applications!!!! I jus left a house today with a HEAT PUMP & I suspect the installer didn’t configure Nest for the proper system! You need to show wiring & set up for both gas furnace/ac… and heat pump with auxiliary/emergency!!! Now I have to go back to this house & check wiring at Nest & configure for heat pump! The Installer is the main person to blame so far!!!! I’m glad you have info that helps with install & removal! I don’t wanna tear it up taking it off the wall! Wish me luck!

I just want to throw this in here for a heads up. When I installed mine, the "W" cord (the white one) was in the "W" slot on my old thermostat. When I inserted it into the "W" slot into the NEST, only the heat came on. If you're having this problem, take the "W" cord and insert it into the "O/B" slot. The video doesn't tell you this, so it might not apply to everyone, but that's what got mine working. Other than that, set up really is a breeze.

Pro tip: cut out a inch x inch square and take it to a paint shop. They use a computer to match the color. Be sure the sample location is a good representation of the color since sun/grease/dust might make it look different than you want. Get a sample size of paint which often is free and then test it out. Mine matched perfectly

I bought one of these, and the first month it was in place my bill soared from 450 dollars to more than 1250 dollars. I called, and they said, "that happens sometimes." They told me how to turn off the "smart" features of the thermostat, and I paid my insane electric bill. I later found out my kids were coming home from school and cranking the ac down in the heat of summer when nobody was home, so that's what it started doing. Can't blame the company for that, but oh my goodness was that a sad discovery. It doesn't seem to shut off reliably when the temperature is reached (it gets way chilly) as well. Can't say I recommend this product because now it's just a pretty thermostat. There needs to be a warning on the box.

I went through it with a friend and he helped me make it work. I had to connect a C wire. In the end I added 2 wires to my wiring setup. But it functions. Personally as I'm not a fan of it. I just assumed it would be better than a regular programmable thermostat but it's not really the case. In my opinion the learning is a gimmick seems almost useless. Setup was overly complicated. Only a single person can have the app connected. Setting up a time schedule is 50x more complicated than it should be. After a couple of days I'd rate it 3 out of 5. If I had bought it at Costco or another store I visit regularly I would return it

My existing Honeywell thermostat is connected to the Central Heating pump only and controls that. When the temperature in our hall, where it's situated, drops then the thermostat detects that and turns on the pump and that fires up the boiler and hence the radiators get hot again. Simples! Why complicate matters so with a swanky device and anyway what it 'Fan' ? I don't have that.

Hi Jason, We'd be more than happy to assist you with this. If your current home has two thermostats to control upstairs and downstairs, you will need to purchase Nest Thermostats for your home.

That's correct, you will need two of the Nest Thermostat.

They should really include drywall anchors. If you touch it as much as I touch my thermostat, the whole thing will be hanging loose on the wall in a month.

I am thinking of getting one but my boiler has a programmer box fitted to it and the thermostat is in the living room so can fix the nest one their. What I need to know is what happens to the box that currently times the hot water and or heating? Does this have to be disconnected? In the box is the heat link and you do not even mention it. We need this to heat the water, so is it not a waste of money just to use this as a thermostat when it does both? This makes this not so easy to do as it is complicated to put the Heat Link in as we need to take off the programmer.

Here is a question, why doesnt NEST have control over HRV? These are mandatory on all newer homes over the past decade. Its one of the reasons why i cant use nest thermostat. Also, why must the system mode be on 'heat or cool' in order to just turn on the fan?

A little explaining of the wires would help. You had a red wire with just R on it. But somehow you knew to label it RH not the other choice , so how does that work?

As I wait for delivery of my thermostat, it would have been helpful if the *.pdf and/or this video had the dimensions of the Nest thermostat stated so I would know if I needed to either spackle and paint the wall or get a faceplate to cover the old thermostat marks.

I don’t even have a nest. I just wanted to watch this video cause I heard it was good. I’m in marketing and develop stuff like this, and this video, is great. I can’t put my finger on exactly why but it’s a hit.

If I turn off the breaker for my AC unit but the fan is still on, is it okay to install the next then or should I shut off the main power at the breaker box?
@googlenest
@googlenest 7 жыл бұрын
If the fan is still running for the AC, this means the power hasn't been shut down fully. You'd want to double check for any breakers labeled AH, Air Handler, Heater, Furnace Etc.

I have Myson control panel for my heating and hot water with timer program ability directly below my boiler but its simple on or off with no thermostat ability. This is linked to a separate thermostat in the hall. Watching the above video it looks like this replaces my control panel, but then what do I do with the thermostat in the hall? Thanks!

@@googlenest Poor answer guys. There must be millions of houses with my set up. I've now established that you have a heat link to replace the control panel.
@googlenest
@googlenest 6 жыл бұрын
You will only have a Heat Link if you're located in Europe or the UK. The Heat Link connects to your heating system in order to start and stop your heating and is controlled by the Nest Thermostat.

If you're installing a Nest, you'd want to turn power off to your HVAC system at the breaker box to ensure there is no power during the installation. Details here: nest.com/support/article/How-to-install-your-Nest-Learning-Thermostat
