Had to replace my hanger today and everyone was skipping over how to position the derailleur when mounting. Thank you for being specific!

Thank you, thank you for doing this video. I just converted from a 105 derailleur to this GRX and, having never done this before, this video (and your derailleur setup videos) saved me hours of frustration. Please keep up the great work!

fantatastic stuff. I'm a science teacher with 21 years exp, and a bike builder/tech as well. Love your approach. The intentional mistake prior to proper installation was a great technique. I'm going to steal that when I train new bike builders this summer. Cheers.

Awesome! Glad to help, and thanks for the feedback. Where are you located?

@@BikeTeacher I'm in Birmingham, AL. I teach at Jefferson County International Baccalaureate and build bikes (and do some tech work) for Cahaba Cycles). I can retire from the classroom in 7 years, so I'm working in the next iteration!

Thank you! This was the ONE. Idea that helped me solve my remounting issue. I had screwed it in between the two protrusions.

Yes, these can be a tricky one because it can be installed with good connection but it will not function 100%. Thanks for watching.

MY GRX shifts like crap with the clutch engaged..any thoughts?

Yes, I believe it should offer adjustability. I have not done that video yet, but I will. Some Shimano’s offer a access hole covered by a rubber dust cap. Others may have you remove 3-4 screws and take the cover cap off. There will be a adjustment screw to turn. Loosen counter clockwise a 1/4 to 1/2 turn at a time to test. Hope this helps.

Hi, this is a great video. However, after i installed it onto the frame and pulled and fixed the derailleur cable, my guide jockey wheel touches the cassette after 6 or 7 shift clicks. Furthermore the guide jockey wheel, without the chain mounted, won't align with the outer sprockets of the cassette (only untill second to last sprocket of a 42t casette). I'm absolutely certain that I have a long cage grx derailleur. Having installed several other "normal" derailleurs successfully, this one just won't work. Could you make a complete installvideo or have some suggestions of me failing :)?

Hi, the b screw will need adjustment. It’s the one not labeled. Tighten this while rotating or pivoting the upper wheel at its pivot point.

Let me know how it goes. I have some video I will post later today about the b screw and 1x drivetrains. There are two chain chain positions to check for the 1x's.

The hanger seams loose
@BikeTeacher5 жыл бұрын
It is by design. It gets tension from the chain and gears. It may loose tension more so if you ride with the clutch off. I noticed this while pedaling backwards.
@awesomexistence5 жыл бұрын
Bike Teacher, the frame mounted extension to the derailleur is loose. 2 screws to tighten.
@cleanshirt19815 жыл бұрын
@@BikeTeacher No. The hanger is loose. The B-link is what you are referring to.

If you need to watch a almost five minute video on how to just bolt on a derailleur YOU SHOULD NOT BE WORKING ON YOUR BIKE.
@marksimoneau61084 жыл бұрын
You could not be more wrong. One of the smartest men to have ever lived, Richard Feynman, said the true test of a great teacher is: Can a 5 year old understand what I am teaching? If not, I am not doing a good enough job. Sorry, the point of these videos to learn HOW TO DO and do correctly. And this instructor is excellent. And FYI: cross threading a bolt might not be a big deal to you, but it is for us mere mortals.

well the nuance of the tabs was new to me, and I only knew there was an issue when the rear wheel would not go in for a new build, that said, I am not a mechanic so was finishing assembly on a bike ordered during pandemic, so mostly disassembled, this was my only area of frustration and I did not want to have issues installing the rear disc and through axle and knew something was amiss, the details on the tabs were very helpful and voila, easy to install.
