How To Install the Wolo Bad Boy Air Horn

John: Hey guys, John, here with RealTruck.com. Today I'm going to show you
how to install this Wolo electric air horn onto a Dodge Ram truck. Okay, guys. We all know how our factory horns sound, something like this. [hornsounds] But we kind of want something a little bit cooler on our Dodge truck. So that's why we're going to put that Wolo Bad Boy electric air horn onto this truck. Then when we get done, we'll let you see what it sounds like.
The first step of replacing any factory horn is to get it out of the
vehicle. I've gone ahead and taken this one out so you can see what's going on because it's buried deep in this fender. They're not all in the same location. You'll have to track down the location of where yours is. So once we've got this out, what we want to do is go ahead and unplug it. That way we can use the factory installed horn wiring which will allow us to continue to use our horn button on our steering wheel.
What we need to do with our factory wires because we're going to use the factory horn button is go ahead and cut these ends off. Then we'll need to crimp on some of these spade style connectors onto our wire. The reason why we need to do that is because our new horn system has these spade ends on it for negative and positive. We need to have something other than the original wire clips which obviously don't fit.
Now depending on what make and model of vehicle you have, yours may have a style like that or it may not. We're going to go ahead and snip these wires off of here. In this instance, because we're not going to have enough space in between these, what we're going to have to do is we're going to have to strip this back a little bit to give us some room to open these up where it'll go into our new horn a little bit better.
Once you get those apart, give yourself a little bit more room and where to work with, go ahead and strip those back. We'll attach the spade connector which you can get at just about any hardware store or your local automotive store. You can see these . . . they call them factory fender plugs or something along those lines. What we're going to do is we're just going to pop that out. There will be a hole there where we can fit our new horn perfectly right in there with the bolt that it comes with for mounting.Right now we're going to go ahead and hook this up.
Now if you look down inside here, you can see that these are marked plus and minus. Of course, your black is going to be your minus or your ground, in this case. So we're going to make sure we plug that one into the corresponding connection spot. The other one will go onto our positive side.
So what we want to do is go ahead and pull this body plug out of here. Don't worry about it if you accidentally cut it off or whatever because you're not going to reuse it anyway. This is the mounting bracket for our horn right here. We're going to go ahead and slide that up underneath there and put our bolt through. Once we have that in place we can go ahead and finish bolting it up. Not keep in mind you don't need to over tighten that because it's not going anywhere. We've got it wired up. We've got it bolted up. Let's go push the button and see how this thing sounds.

I put this horn on my boat. Tucked neatly underneath the radar dome 3/4 of the way up the mast. Extremely effective in clearing seagulls from the deck.

@@2017_Elantra that’s like saying switching a 15A fuse to a 20A fuse will give your equipment more power. It’s a logical fallacy. The amperage rating is simply how much it can flow before overheating and melting/letting the magic smoke out.

Thanks for the informative video. Seems the horn in the video is located deep within the engine bay. Won't I lose a good amount of decibels through the engine, hood, walls, etc. compared to installing it behind the grille? The reason I ask is because I couldn't find enough space in front of my vehicle (2000 CR-V) and might install the unit the same way as you did. But if the sound will be weaker, I might just get more compact disc horns up front.

I tried installing this horn on my Chevy Sonic but it kept blowing the fuse. The car only single stock horn (low tone only) so it sounds pretty whimpy. If I wanted my wolo bad boy to stop blowing the fuse, would I have to wire in a relay and connect it to the positive battery terminal like the diagram that came with the horn says?

MrCjsartwell whichever horn you are removing use those wires. If you are removing both and only adding the one horn back just leave the second set unplugged. It really just comes down to how you want to mount it. There are a variety of different ways that you could run this horn. I would recommend taking it to an audio shop and they can hook everything up for you.

I installed a new horn, added it to the stock one on my motorcycle. When I honk it beeps once, even if I keep holding the button. Won't beep again until I turn ignition off then back on, then it beeps once again. What did I do wrong? Or is it defective? When I remove it and put the stock horn back alone, stock horn works normal.

This horn is literally not the best for a truck, but i have one in my 1992 Paseo and oh men. You gotta see the peoples faces on traffic when they see is my car that sounds like that. Is really funny and at the moment i think is the one I’m gonna use for a long time.

Put the new horns in front of the radiator so the sound goes out the front, not into the cabin. Mounting the new horns on the engine bay firewall shields the sound from going out the front of the vehicle. Sort of self defeating, eh?

I'm sure there is a way to accomplish this but I do not know the best way to go about it. The best option would be to contact a local shop so that they can figure out the wiring for you.

Honestly I thought the factory horn was a little louder and tidbit higher pitch but overall basically the same. I could see if you're installing it on a ATV ,motorcycle or something other than a four-wheeled vehicle.On my sportbike half the time I don't even hit the horn I just rev it way up at the butthole that pissed me off and let my Yoshimura do the talking sounds way better than my sissy horn it's the difference between a mouse yelling f--- you or Barry Manilow

My wolo horn only honks for a second and only honks when the car is off or stopped. Is that because it's not getting enough power?

Dillon Sims no. It sounds like a wiring issue. Double check your power and grounds and see if there is a problem there. Do you have it wired into your wire for your factory horn? try hooking the factory one back in and see if it works. You could have a bad horn relay. Probably a wiring fault, check the wirig diagram against your wiring install. It might help to increase the wiring size to either 14 or12 gauge to get the proper current to the compressor, and do not forget to use the relay!
