Brilliant. U put us novices to shame with both hands. I've looked up many vids on utube how to do various things. Urs is by far THE MOST direct, accurate, and easiest to follow. Just an FYI for others n like me with a GTH: the bolt holding engine shaft pulley belt guide is NOT accessible, so just remove PTO clutch as shown by this gentleman.

Excellent job of showing how to change the drive belt. However, I find the one most important thing left out of all the videos showing how to do this is how to keep the clutch from turning when to Torqueing the clutch bolt when reinstalling the clutch? Just keeps spinning when trying to torque. Ideas? Wish Husqvarna would have designed this where you could keep it stationary somehow during reinstallation. I had to just go for it with an impact and hope for the best.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Жыл бұрын
The easiest way that I have found is to hold the nut on top of the fly wheel with a wrench or socket and torque the bolt on the PTO. It is most cases a two person job and to be honest I bet 75% or more do not even torque it. I’m glad this video was helpful and thank you for watching!

Great video, but I have a question. My model is "YTH 20F42T." The belt I took off measures 91-3/4". The new one is 84-3/4". Could it possibly have stretched that much or did I get the wrong belt?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines4 ай бұрын
I would say you most likely have the incorrect belt. Always get your correct part by using the model number under the seat to look up parts for your machine. That will keep you from having issues.

thank you for making these videos. I have a question, is it okay to raise the mowers up like that? I mean, yes you did, but I have an old Craftsman LT1000 and a RZT50 Cub Cadet Zero Turn Mower. Can both be raised up to work under them??
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Жыл бұрын
My opinion All front engine tractors, yes. Just be careful not to raise O turn too high or air filter may catch some fuel. I have been raising all the mowers I work on for over 30years without any issues.

I love your videos as you make everything so simple in explanation. I paid a lot of money last year for my husqvarna YTH 2246 TDR to be serviced as belt kept coming off the transmission fan part. Over $ 700. Nz My son in law used mower at the weekend on sloping area and now it doesn’t have much grunt again going up my slopes . Was smelling very hot too. I checked oil and was ok. The slope I’m sure was too much for the mower to handle but I wasn’t aware he was mowing that part as not been done for a couple of years. I sure hope I don’t have to pay out a lot of money again. I’ve looked to see if grass is blocking anything but seems clear but the belt is very loose again, I’m 77 and lost my hubby so on pension therefore Any advice would be much appreciated or whether it’s beyond my scope . Thank you .
@JohnsonsSmallEngines8 ай бұрын
The simple things to look for is to make sure the belt is going around all of the pulleys. Check for any debris caught up in the pulleys. Unfortunately, without seeing the machine. It is impossible to diagnose.

Question.. so I followed your exact video and replaced the drive belt it’s all good but my mower is still having a hard time moving forward uphills and reverse. Still really slow as before I replaced the drive belt. Is there something else that could cause my mower to move really slow?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines4 ай бұрын
Depending on hours on the machine? Hills on the property? and have you ever pulled a cart with heavy loads? You most likely have a transmission failing. Even if you do not have any of them, It still sounds like the transmission is failing.

Do you know any large online retailers that have replacement maintenance parts for sale? Anything like rock auto or discounters without store fronts to keep costs down? I’ve been trying to track down air filter/pre foam, oil filter, fuel filter, fuel line etc. I can find a part here and there from Home Depot, Menards, ace, oreilly, advance auto. The off brands on Amazon worry when you read come of the reviews and I’m not sure name branded/stamped oil filters with the Koehler logo are any better other than cost. Thank you sir for any ideas.
@m998hmmwv7 Жыл бұрын
Amazon is ok. The parts are mostly well made and definitely well priced. If the majority of reviews are good I'd say go with it. Iv noticed in the past that sometimes the competition will leave bad reviews in order to push there own products
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Жыл бұрын
I agree with M998 HMMWV. Most small engine shops use both OEM and aftermarket parts. Sometimes you can get OEM parts through Amazon and with free shipping it will be about what you would pay locally. Amazon has a very good return policy so if you do not like what you see, just return it.
@timweb1510 Жыл бұрын
@@m998hmmwv7 thanks man. It’s questionable for me when I see replacement air filters/oil filters that aren’t the same size, have much larger/thicker pre foam cleaner, etc. The prices are all over the place and I’m just trying to get this riding mower tuned up to use.

Great video, when I’m trying to remove the bolt for the pto it’s turning the pulley, is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines9 ай бұрын
Yes the engine pulley is attached to the engines crankshaft which turns. You will need to use a power tool or you will need to find a way to stop the shaft from spinning. If you have a manual blade engagement, you may be able to use a pipe wrench to hold the pulley shaft.

Was driving my mower Husqvarna lth 2142dr slowly without blades in operation - was just driving to a spot before mowing and I heard a single knock/pop and the mower stopped moving and the motor died. The motor turns over but won't start and I think a belt has broke. My question is do the mowers have a safety switch that would be activated by 1 of the belts snapping ?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines11 ай бұрын
No, remember to disengage your PTO, blade engagement lever or button depending on what you have. Most forget to do this, hence the machine will not start.

Can/will you makr a video on a Cub Cadet XT1 LT42 drive belt pully replacement? I watched your video on removing the deck and it helped immensely. Unfortunately, I ran over a metal T-Post which derailed my drive belt and destroyed one of the plastic pulleys. Again, great video's.

I make the videos when the issue happens so having a drive belt and pulleys go bad soon most likely will not happen. When I get a Machine in that needs the repair, I will make a video and post it.

How do I get the transmission bolt off without an impact drill? My pully keeps spinning and I can't figure out how to hold it still
@windy6677 ай бұрын
if you do not have an impact wrench, you must block the shaft by blocking it from ABOVE. To do this, remove the engine cover so that the central nut is accessible. You now need to apply a counter wrench here while you loosen the nut from BELOW. This is the only way to loosen the nut by blocking the shaft from ABOVE or holding it with a suitable counter wrench. Or borrow an impact drill from a friend or neighbor, it's much easier that way ;-)
