This video is great. I am looking to install this on my own deck. Currently we have a closed veranda below it and we really need a drainage system. We bought the house recently and the old owner was putting waterproofing paint/urethane mox on it every couple of years. But I miss the look of a classic deck, which trex can offer. I am really nervous to try such a project but your video helped give me some confidence!

I have done lots of RainEscape and I’m gonna give you some free advice. Never use aluminum gutters down below, people have used chemicals to clean decks and over time it pitted and burned holes in gutters.Gutters were heavy gauge seamless. Use PVC gutters or pipes.

Regarding debris that might collect overtime in the trough (pine needles, etc), what do you think about making the first few boards closest to the house removal, so if you get bad a blockage then you remove the board on run a strong hose of water down the trough? With all of the taping, membrane, caulking, is it possible to have removable boards or build in some sort of removable panels made out of the decking? Great video! Thanks.

So how do you attach the decking without making a hole thru the tape and rain escape?
@coversanddecks
@coversanddecks Жыл бұрын
you do not. the tape is butyl tape and will prevent any leaking. you cannot burn or miss the screw or else it will leak. this product is the best out there and if installed properly this is no leaks.

Great video. Excellent workmanship. How do you service this if you get a call back for a leak?
@coversanddecks
@coversanddecks 4 жыл бұрын
MarkM I have only had one call back due to my employee cutting a trough and not fixing it. It actually took about a year before the leak showed up. But we water tested the deck and followed the leak to try and find it. We had to tear off some decking to get to it, once you tear of the decking you must reapply the tape to cover the old holes from the deck screws/hidden fasteners. We always water test after we install the rain escape and then again after we install the decking before we finish the ceiling. Thanks for watching

Thanks sir for your videos just would like to know if it gets glue with the same trex black glue you used on the joists when glueing to the brick in front of the house? so rain doen't get in behind
@coversanddecks
@coversanddecks Жыл бұрын
Yes, we use butyl caulk everywhere we can. You really want to get the Rain Escape under the brick in between the joist/ledger and brick. Definitely use a good amount of butyl and we also use it before we put the decking in as well.

no probs ...just an idea but could you use a length of timber same length as the troff .. use it as a kinda weight in the troff to get a crease free gully ?? not sure i explained it to great ..basically put the timber in the gully at the deep eny pull the sheet until you got the run off / slope ya need staple and work ya way down with .. if that makes sense ..use the sam bit of timber on each gully / troff ...its just as i watch this it makes sense to use a timber length to weight it down plus your get a perfect even slope .
@coversanddecks
@coversanddecks 4 жыл бұрын
That could possibly work. Just be careful that it doesn’t pull the staples. We also just uploaded another video with a twoperson install which is a lot easier than one person

How do you clean pine needles and cones?
@coversanddecks
@coversanddecks Жыл бұрын
We use 6” gutter’s which helps keeping the gutter clean. I would suggest taking a hose and running a volume of water through there to get those needles moving.

Dumb question...but won't the deck plank screws puncture the trex membrane? Is there any potential of leaking because of this?
@jomo1018
@jomo1018 3 жыл бұрын
no, not if the screw is installed properly. the caulk and tape act as a washer to repel the water. make sure you go straight into the joist and do not "burn" the screw in
@bro_chacho
@bro_chacho 3 жыл бұрын
@@jomo1018 We installed rain guard on a complete deck on a day of warm weather, the 'water test' passing each time. Later in the day as it got hot, we saw that some water was pooling before the downspouts (we randomly did the water test again). Is there a way to fix this? (Larger tab cuts at the end of the trough???). Will this be a problem as time goes on?

What if you have a leave issue, meaning nearby trees drop literally thousands of leaves which go thru your deck...is there an access to clean out...
@coversanddecks
@coversanddecks 3 жыл бұрын
What I would do is install the rain escape system and then install a screening system on top and then install the decking. So the leaves and everything will not go through the deck grooves into the rain escape. And you can power wash it and the leaves will come out without going into the rain escape. Thanks for watching hope this helps
@kenmcf
@kenmcf 3 жыл бұрын
@@coversanddecks This the leaves just get stuck on the screen. After years of living in a house surrounded by trees on a hill, I have come to realize..Only poor or dumb people(like me) have trees. Trees are for the birds :>)
@coversanddecks

@@kenmcf yes, there is no great solution to keep the leaves out. I think this is the best as you can pressure wash the leaves out.
