id have a small piece of plywood under my body for knee support, etc, a 4x4 or 4x3' cut. something you can easily move as you work across the deck when applyng the material.

Why are you using the butyl caulk instead of stapling and then applying the butyl tape?

What kind of tape do you use? Ours came with 1.5 inch Trex Protect tape but the website shows we should be using the 4 inch stuff

I like this concept. I installed this system on my deck in south Colorado. I wanted to put a ceiling under the deck, but now I'm getting cracks in the trex lining. What am I supposed to do, replace a 4 x 8 sheet every time a crack forms?? I thought was the answer to my problem, but it just created a different problem.

I would contact Trex for a warranty. They should not be cracking.

So when installing the decking over you can screw right into the joists covered in the material?

Yes, just make sure you are hitting the joist and do not spin or back out the screw. Once the screw is where you want it stop and move on to the next. Thanks for watching

You're supposed to install the Trex butyl tape on top of everything because the heat from installing the screw melts the butyl tape around the screw and seals it tight to prevent rain from seeping into the joist

How do you account for a middle board and/or picture framing? How do you frame that and keep it waterproof below?

I don't see any blocking. It looks like if you install this product you can't have blocking between the joists. Without blocking the deck will not be up to code. That doesn't seem right.

You can do blocking you have to install the rain escape first then the blocking. The blocking will be ripped so it doesn’t interfere with the pitch of the trough. Thanks for watching

@@coversanddecks Thanks for explaining. I did a little research and found out that it is OK to rip the blocking. The code states that blocking shall not be less than 60 percent of the height of the joist. So it's OK to rip the blocking (no more than the 60 percent criteria) for the installation of the TreKRainExcape. Using TrekRainEscape looks like a good solution.

What do you do different now that you learned from callbacks or mistakes or how to build it better. I'm curious on blocking between joist for twisting as it dries and how you attach this with a rain screen on a house or how it ties under flashing

The product works great. We use a lot of the caulk don’t skimp on it. And tape everything. Don’t really have any callbacks biggest thing is when you’re screwing do not burn the screw in. Make sure the screw hits the middle of the Joist and once stopped do not move it again. If the house has existing flashing and you’re reusing the existing flashing which we only do this when it’s a stucco house. It does take a little bit more time and a little more difficult to get that trough underneath the flashing and on top of the ledger. Once it is installed we tape the flashing down to the trough.

Have you ever used the Trex RainEscape on a deck that the engineer required a double 2x10 rim joist, where you wanted a 3/4” bullnose and 3/4” fascia on a double picture frame deck? Do you use the ladder method on the downspouts, just deal with the inside board of the double frame being 16” on center, move your first joist over far enough to allow only the recommended perpendicular overhang of 3/4” and then cut your downspout on both 12” sides to fit in the small joist opening??

too expensive and will rot your joists out if you live in area with a lot of humidity...
